00:00 President Bombo Marcos encouraged businessmen and investors in Singapore to be patient in the Philippines.
00:06 Some of his supporters are the "good" Filipinos in English,
00:10 the frequent use of the internet to promote online sellers,
00:14 and incentives for businessmen like TaxBreak.
00:17 First news, Jonathan Andal.
00:19 Just after the impact of the Milken Institute 10th Asia Summit in Singapore,
00:27 the President apologized immediately, as he was late by almost half an hour
00:31 because his luggage was late.
00:54 The Asia Summit is a gathering of industry leaders, policy makers, and experts
00:59 to discuss the issues that the world is facing today.
01:02 In his speech, the President encouraged businessmen to invest in the Philippines,
01:07 including the Maharlika Investment Fund.
01:09 The President said that they are setting this up because they are now in the hands of the country's debtors.
01:14 We also started to worry about borrowings.
01:17 Although our borrowings in terms of racial GDP are not as high as maybe our neighboring countries.
01:25 We are standing at about 62.3% up to 63% of GDP.
01:33 But for us, that is high.
01:35 The President also increased the economy's growth rate in 2022 to 7.6%,
01:40 the fastest growth since 1976, the time of his father.
01:45 The President also asked what the state of the country's economy is after COVID-19.
01:50 So we have continued to develop our agricultural sector.
01:54 And the aspiration once again is that we are able to provide
02:00 a sufficient supply of food at prices that people can afford.
02:04 And that's still, we are not there yet,
02:06 but we have made many important steps to start that.
02:10 And he said, we cannot now continue to depend on importation,
02:16 which is what has happened for the Philippines.
02:18 In the past years, it became the easy way out.
02:21 Just import more, import more rice, import more corn, import more everything.
02:26 And the pandemic showed us that this was not a wise choice to have made.
02:33 And so we have continued to develop our agricultural sector.
02:39 Until Saturday, the President will meet with business leaders and investors,
02:43 and he was also able to watch the Formula 1 race.
02:46 This is the first news.
