Carson Bruener spoke about the Michigan State game way back in spring ball.
Transcript
00:00 I thought it was a big key but I didn't think it was that big.
00:01 So seeing that was pretty cool.
00:03 >> You go back to Michigan State this year, is the guy you hit still on the roster?
00:06 >> I haven't checked it.
00:07 I haven't checked.
00:08 That game I'm definitely looking forward to because I mean,
00:10 they're gonna want to come back at us.
00:12 Cuz they were ranked high, they were I think 11 when they came and
00:15 we played well against them and kind of ran them a little bit.
00:18 So they're gonna look for some revenge when we go over there.
00:21 So it'll be fun.
00:21 >> Carson, where are you at in the competition?
00:23 I know there's like a big four.
00:25 I mean, there's more guys than that for sure.
00:26 >> Yeah. >> But when the coaches talk,
00:28 they talk about a big four.
00:29 And of course, you're one of those.
00:31 It must be super competitive.
00:32 I mean, how do you view it?
00:33 >> Yeah, no, it is.
00:34 And I mean, I would even say big five, I didn't drew Fowler.
00:36 He's came along.
00:38 I mean, I'm surprised he's still walk on, like just to put that out there.
00:42 But I mean, he's been developing him and I've been talking.
00:44 I mean, we're both mics are the same position.
00:46 So we're competing but also we're pretty good and
00:48 we're pretty best friends like pretty close.
00:50 So just having him come in, he's taken a way bigger role even from last year and
00:54 just seeing his improvement is pretty good.
00:56 So knowing even us, even the other people in the room,
00:58 like everyone, Tevin Bryant's coming along, DeMario is coming along.
01:00 So I feel like it could be closer to last year on how many linebackers were rotating.
01:05 It's gonna help us stay fresh and stay injury free and
01:08 kind of be able to attack the season.
01:10 >> Now you've been a starter and a Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week,
01:13 which is the highest level of linebacker.
01:15 >> Yeah. >> And what do you need with this new
01:17 staff?
01:18 You play a lot.
01:20 >> Yeah. >> But you haven't been a starter like
01:21 you were two years ago.
01:23 Is there something you need to show them or to move up?
01:26 I mean, you're eventually gonna be a starter again for sure.
01:28 >> Yeah, yeah.
01:29 >> What do you think is the thing that you need to work on?
01:31 >> I feel like the biggest thing is just continuing to improve in just my overall
01:35 game and I mean, they're gonna play the best players and
01:37 they're gonna put in who they wanna put in.
01:39 At the end of the day, all I can do is come out here and play football and
01:41 do my best and give my 100% effort every single play.
01:44 So I mean, at the end of the day, that's all I can do and
01:47 they make the decisions from there.
01:48 But I mean, just being a part of this team,
01:50 being able to actually contribute on Saturdays going out there making tackles,
01:54 PVU, like all that and being on special teams.
01:56 It's pretty important, especially having last year be 11-2,
01:59 we won the Alamo Bowl and then coming in now to this year.
02:01 I mean, we got big goals this year, so I'm looking forward to being part of it.
