00:00 Stylist to the stars, La Roche, made a splash at New York Fashion Week, creative directing
00:04 South Asian luxury designer Falguni Shane Peacock, for their Spring and Summer 2024
00:10 collection, saying this is the happiest he's ever been.
00:14 The image architect best known for his work with Zendaya, Anya Taylor-Joy and Celine Dion,
00:19 and who announced his retirement earlier this year, collaborated with the husband and wife
00:23 duo designers to put together a runway show that Roche deemed "Mumbai meets New York."
00:29 The brand launched in 2001 and has had their pieces worn by the likes of Beyonce, Kim Kardashian,
00:34 Zendaya, Lady Gaga and more.
00:37 Roche chatted with The Hollywood Reporter about why, despite being in retirement, he
00:42 chose to collaborate with the fashion house who made their return to New York Fashion
00:45 Week after an eight-year hiatus.
00:47 "I took a trip to Mumbai for the Ambani Cultural Centre and that's really what kicked off the
00:52 collaboration.
00:53 I wouldn't have done this had I not visited the country.
00:56 This is my retirement.
00:57 I've been doing as little as possible and staying away from all of this."
01:01 Roche noted that he met and hit it off with the duo during the opening of the cultural
01:05 centre, so when the call came to creative direct the collection, he called it "alignment,"
01:09 saying the universe knows.
01:11 "It was an easy yes for me because I'd been to India.
01:14 I've had the food and tasted the spices.
01:16 I saw the women on the street with the long braids and all the jewelry and the beautiful
01:20 colors.
01:21 So it made sense to me.
01:22 I had a real reference point."
01:24 The result was a show that blended South Asian culture and luxury fashion with the street
01:28 styles of New York and cool girl aesthetic.
01:31 This was Mumbai Meets New York.
01:33 It's a collide of East and West.
01:35 Of the collaboration, Falcone and Shane added, "Law's style is extremely cool and appealing
01:40 to young people.
01:42 We brought him on board because he has a very different approach in terms of styling.
01:45 He gave the collection, which is so couture and luxe, a very cool street vibe with a more
01:50 wearable feel by adding the sweatshirts, sweatpants and caps, showing you could wear the collection
01:55 with sneakers or heels to bring the look to another level."
01:58 Roach made headlines earlier this year announcing his retirement from styling, citing that he
02:03 was bowing out because of politics and false narratives.
02:06 However, these days he seems to be thriving, telling THR that he has a lot of positivity
02:11 he's looking forward to.
02:13 "I am the happiest that I think I've ever been in my entire life.
02:16 And I'm just really looking forward to continuing to practice in the habit of staying happy."
