Joe Nicholson reacts after Sunderland's 3-1 win over QPR at Loftus Road after second-half goals from Dan Ballard and Abdoullah Ba
Transcript
00:00 Outside Loftus Road where Sunderland have come from a goal down to beat QPR 3-1 in the
00:06 Championship.
00:07 Another good result for Tony Mowbray's side who have now taken 10 points from their last
00:12 4 games.
00:13 It wasn't always easy for them today, they did fall a goal down inside 12 minutes after
00:17 Kenneth Paul's low shot beat Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson.
00:21 But a significant moment around the 20 minute mark when former Sunderland midfielder Jack
00:25 Colbeck was showing a straight red card for QPR, a late tackle on Joe Bellingham.
00:31 It was very late, Studs seemed to be showing as well and he was sent off.
00:35 But even after that it was quite frustrating for Sunderland, weren't really able to rate
00:39 QPR down and a few sloppy passes in the final third as they struggled to find an equaliser.
00:46 But that came on the stroke of half time, right before half time actually, the 8th minute
00:50 of stoppage time when Jack Clarke cut in from the left and his deflected shot went past
00:55 the QPR goalkeeper Azmi Begovic and that really gave momentum to Sunderland in the second
01:00 half.
01:01 They were much better after the break, really went on the front foot.
01:04 Tony Mowbray made a positive substitution by bringing on Patrick Roberts in place of
01:08 Niall Huggins.
01:09 So a winger coming on for a full back.
01:11 Roberts actually played in more of a central position and it was really just attack vs
01:16 defence in that second half.
01:18 Sunderland then managed to take the lead, Alex Pritchard's shot was saved and Dan Ballard
01:22 converted the rebound to make it 2-1.
01:25 Sunderland continued after that, could have had more than the three goals.
01:28 They scored Abdullah Barre getting on the score sheet as well, nine minutes from time
01:33 converting Adil Oshish's cross, a debut for Oshish who came off the bench.
01:38 Mason Verstoe also made his debut for Sunderland as well today.
01:42 Few injury concerns with Dennis Serkin and Bradley Dac missing out and Pierre Equart
01:47 went off early in the second half.
01:48 He was replaced by Alex Pritchard who I actually thought was excellent today.
01:51 He came on and really was creating chances and really linking up play and helping kind
01:56 of dictate the tempo especially in that second half.
01:58 It's another good performance from him.
01:59 Equart hopefully not too bad.
02:00 He was out on the pitch afterwards applauding the Sunderland away fans who were here again
02:05 in good numbers today.
02:06 And to see another good away win for the Black Cats.
02:08 So they'll go again.
02:09 It's a busy week for them.
02:11 They're away at Blackburn on Wednesday so you can find more reaction to today's result
02:14 over on the SAFC section of the Sunderland Echo website.
