This gem of a town is definitely not a hidden one but still a place to seek out for a wonderful day trip.

Not too long ago Garachico was almost fully destroyed by the outbreak of the Arenas Negras volcano (we hiked around this volcano a week later) in 1706. Before the destruction of the town and harbor, Garachico was in a golden period, thanks to their harbor and trade. Luckily no lives were lost but the impact of this event to its people, economics and town was devastating.

The town got rebuilt and Garachico is again a beautiful little town!
