Staff weep tears of joy after Sunderland school judged as outstanding by Ofsted

Barnwell Academy headteacher Ashley Emmerson and pupils at the school react to their outstanding Ofsted.

00:00 Okay, so how does it feel to get the outstanding judgement then?

00:03 Oh, we're absolutely ecstatic.

00:05 We worked so hard as a team and we're absolutely over the moon.

00:10 What was the reaction of the staff when you told them?

00:12 The staff were really, really delighted.

00:14 Again, all nervous at the end of the day, but once that judgement came through

00:18 there was tears of joy, tears of laughter, cheers, claps.

00:22 The whole school community was here to hear it as well.

00:25 And what pleased you most about the report?

00:28 I think just the way it's written and the positive outcomes for the children.

00:33 It really highlights the curriculum that the children get,

00:36 the standard of teaching that they get.

00:39 And we absolutely loved to hear the children's responses around the teaching

00:44 and learning and how they like coming to Barnwell.

00:46 And we're all so proud.

00:49 Okay, so how does it feel to get the outstanding judgement for your school then?

00:53 I was really proud when we got it because we worked really hard.

00:58 What was the reaction of your class when you got told?

01:00 When we got told all the class went up, we were all cheering and clapping.

01:03 It went on for two days.

01:06 Yeah, the cheering and clapping.

01:07 As soon as we came in, everyone was just buzzing for the next couple of days.

01:11 What's the best thing about coming to this school for you?

01:13 The best thing about coming to this school is how the teachers help

01:15 and always make the lessons really fun for everyone.

01:18 And yourself, what's the best thing for you?

01:20 For me, it's probably because the teachers make the lessons fun

01:23 and they help us out when we're stuck.

01:26 Is the outstanding well-deserved, Annabelle?

01:28 Definitely, because our school works really hard on what we do

01:31 and I think it really, like, will really deserve it.
