Vikings QB Kirk Cousins SI Interview
Transcript
00:00 probably think about the Roman Empire once every couple of months and I don't
00:05 know if that makes me a nerd or it should be more than that but yeah it's
00:09 hard not to I guess.
00:11 Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins is so kind to
00:14 join us today on behalf of Kiddot. Would first love to start with this you guys
00:18 are obviously 0-2 to start the season. How do you go about turning
00:21 things around against the Chargers?
00:22 Yeah we've dug ourselves a hole. We've lost two
00:26 games by a total of nine points. You know this league will test you and here we
00:31 are at 0-2 so as you look at our first two losses a lot of turnovers you know
00:35 we have seven so far turnover differentials minus six so we got to
00:40 address that first and foremost and that will give us a fighting chance to get a
00:43 win on Sunday.
00:44 You get to throw to one of the best receivers in my
00:47 opinion Justin Jefferson. What do you think the ceiling is for him this season?
00:52 Well you know he keeps setting a higher bar every year you know his rookie year
00:56 he broke the rookie record for receiving yards and then the next year kind of
00:59 went even further and then last year one offensive player of the year and had a
01:03 lot of special plays and and so I think you know he's saying where do I go from
01:07 here and and honestly just one game at a time. I think it's important that we just
01:12 week in and week out keep him healthy keep finding ways to get in the football
01:15 and then let him go be the special player that he is so he's done a great
01:19 job being consistent and my challenge to him will always be can you do it again
01:23 can you do it again can you do it again because this league many times has guys
01:27 who were hot for a moment but couldn't sustain it and I want to see Justin be
01:31 someone who does it for double-digit years and he has the talent the setup to
01:35 be able to do that and now it's just a matter of making it happen.
01:38 You know we interviewed him a couple of months ago and he called your game day style the dad drip.
01:44 What's the necessities when assembling a Kurt Cousins game day fit?
01:49 Well you're gonna need a lot of Coles cash because that's where most of my
01:54 fits are coming from so just as long as you have the Coles cash I think you're
01:58 ready to go pretty straightforward my wife handles most of my drip if you want
02:04 to call it that and I just do what she says so yeah hopefully we can keep the
02:09 press conferences looking sharp but you're probably not gonna see me with a
02:12 grill and with some of the outfits that that Justin's been rocking postgame.
02:18 Just maybe just some khakis right?
02:20 Yeah just some dockers straight from Coles.
02:24 There you go.
02:25 Okay so obviously you were a big star on the show quarterback it's been reported that Matthew Stafford has just
02:31 signed on to do this next season do you have any advice for him just being that
02:34 you've gone through the process?
02:36 Yeah I think it's a pretty positive experience I think he'll enjoy it it's
02:40 great content to have for his family for the long haul and certainly there's some
02:43 level of a time commitment and energy that you have to put into it but I think
02:48 he and his family will be glad they did it and a veteran like that who's been around
02:52 the block so much I think makes for a really really good content.
02:55 There's a trend going around TikTok right now I'm not sure if you're aware I have to ask you how
02:59 often do you think about the Roman Empire?
03:02 Well I was I was assembling some Legos the other day with my boys and I went on
03:09 their website and saw that they have the Colosseum as one of their larger sets
03:13 you can buy so just the other day I was thinking about the Roman Empire and the
03:17 Colosseum and you know I was I was you know architecture you notice every now
03:22 and then the Roman architecture around cities and stuff so I probably think
03:27 about the Roman Empire once every couple of months and I don't know if that makes
03:31 me a nerd or it should be more than that but yeah it's hard not to I guess.
03:38 You know what I'm a USC Trojan we play in the Colosseum so I kind of I guess I
03:41 think about it every week when we play so all good.
03:45 Well you are joining us on behalf of KIDA tell us about your partnership with them.
03:49 Yeah so KIDA is a global leader in fire safety equipment they have a cause for
03:55 alarm campaign just to raise people's awareness to the need for their fire
04:00 safety detection equipment in their homes to be kept up to date. The
04:04 equipment itself has a lifespan of about 10 years the batteries need to be
04:07 replaced much more often than that and the NFPA has a statistic that says that
04:12 about 70% of homes in America do not meet the necessary standards for the
04:16 fire safety and detection so it's a little bit of a concerning statistic and
04:22 we just want to help get the word out to make people know that you know make sure
04:25 your fire safety detection equipment is up to speed the batteries are good
04:30 the equipment's running because you do not want to be you know finding that out
04:34 in the event of a home fire.
04:36 All right awesome that's all I got for you thank you so much for joining us really appreciate it.
04:39 Thanks Colin.
