00:00 12-year-old son of Ruby Frank said he was tied up and abused by mother's business
00:04 partner, Jodi Hildebrandt.
00:06 Ruby Frank and her business partner, Jodi Hildebrandt, raised a lot of questions three
00:10 weeks ago when Frank's 12-year-old son escaped Hildebrandt's home and was discovered by
00:14 their neighbor, who said the emaciated little boy had duct tape on his ankles and wrists
00:19 and was asking for food and water.
00:21 Some of those questions are being answered, at least partly, with the release of search
00:25 warrants that were made public earlier this week.
00:27 According to the 12-year-old boy, who spoke with police on the day he was found, it was
00:31 Jodi who tied him up with duct tape and rope, but the child abuse didn't end there.
00:35 The little boy revealed that they would use cayenne pepper and honey to dress up his wounds
00:39 that were left behind from the rope and duct tape.
00:42 Authorities say the presence of a remedy for the wounds proves that Hildebrandt, at the
00:45 very best, knew of the abuse, even as she wasn't the one to initiate the abuse.
00:50 Officers found that the victim's mother, Ruby Frank, had left her three children in
00:54 the care of Jodi Hildebrandt.
00:56 Authors also found that Jodi Hildebrandt had posted several posts on social media and YouTube
01:00 channels where she discusses mental health and family therapy.
01:03 One of the warrants read, "There were three search warrants signed in total, two on August
01:07 30th, the day the 911 call was placed by the neighbor, and another on August 31st, the
01:13 day after."
01:14 The first warrant was for Jodi's property, the second was for communication between Jodi
01:18 and Ruby, and the third was for Jodi's cell phone records.
01:21 A search of Jodi's home found numerous items that raised concerns.
01:25 Scott's tape, Sarin wrap, a pierce, notes, a journal, wools containing a red liquid and
01:30 metal spoon, coven bandages with white socks, super absorbent dressings, brown and white
01:35 rope, handcuffs, carabiners, and gauzes near honey and cayenne pepper.
01:40 After arriving at the home, they found a second juvenile who refused to speak to the police.
01:44 There was also a mention of a potential safe room in the basement of Jodi's home, but
01:48 it was unclear if anyone was inside.
01:50 A second search of the home, when they seized the items, made no mention of the safe room.
01:55 Police seized any devices Jodi Hildebrandt used to communicate with Ruby Frank.
01:59 A second warrant, which was signed later in the day on August 30th, petitioned for any
02:04 and all cell phones, audio recordings, computers, tablets, laptops, surveillance footage, doorbell
02:10 cameras, and any other communication device used to send text messages or email or any
02:15 other audio/visual communications.
02:18 Police were mostly interested in any devices that could have potentially been used by Jodi
02:21 Hildebrandt to communicate with Ruby Frank.
02:24 The return document revealed that authorities seized three Apple iPhones and four Apple
02:28 MacBook computers.
02:30 It's unclear if they found anything on those devices.
02:32 Finally, a third search warrant, which was signed the following morning, requested Hildebrandt's
02:37 personal cell phone that was in her possession when the officers arrested her.
02:41 Unfortunately, there was no return document, and it's unclear if they seized her phone.
02:45 They did, however, learn something new.
02:47 Ms. Hildebrandt requested a lawyer and did not speak with us.
02:50 Ms. Hildebrandt informed me that ****, the two children, should never be allowed around
02:57 any other kids.
02:58 The affidavit read, "It's unclear why she said that."
03:01 While the warrants answered some questions, they definitely raised new questions.
03:04 Ruby Frank's 12-year-old son claims his mother's business partner Jodi Hildebrandt used ropes
03:09 to tie him up and then dressed his wounds with cayenne pepper and honey, according to
03:13 search warrants made public this week.
03:15 The boy escaped Hildebrandt's home on August 30 with duct tape around his wrists and ankles
03:20 and pleaded for food, water, and help from neighbors, telling officers that two of his
03:24 other siblings were still there.
03:26 YouTubers Hildebrandt and Frank both faced six felony counts of aggravated child abuse
03:30 for injuries suffered by the boy and his 10-year-old sister.
03:34 Neither has entered a plea as they remain jailed without bond.
03:36 The presence of any type of remedy for the children's wounds proved that Hildebrandt
03:40 was at least aware of the abuse that was taking place.
03:43 Already stated in the documents obtained by QTV, DailyMail.com attempted to call and email
03:48 Hildebrandt's and Frank's attorneys, but neither responded in time for this report.
03:52 The boy told officers that two other siblings were at Hildebrandt's house, according to
03:56 the warrants.
03:57 Frank had kept the three children in Hildebrandt's care, the warrants further added.
04:01 Responding officers located the 10-year-old girl at Hildebrandt's house but did not find
04:05 the 14-year-old, according to the search warrant.
04:08 The two youngest children were taken to hospital.
04:11 Frank's four youngest of the six children have now been placed in the custody of Child
04:15 Protective Services, court records said.
04:17 After their initial sweep of Hildebrandt's home to find the children and seek medical
04:21 attention, officers found a locked potential safe room in the basement.
04:24 A warrant was then requested to search the house for any items, including rope and duct
04:29 tape.
04:30 Authorities also asked to search the locked room.
04:32 The returned warrant does not say what might have been located in the room or if it was
04:36 searched, according to QTV.
04:38 Officers did find in the home three ropes, two handcuffs, two bowls containing a paste
04:42 of cayenne pepper and honey, bandages, plastic wrap, a journal, and some paperwork, according
04:47 to the search warrant.
04:49 Two other warrants allowed police to seize laptops, cell phones, any video or audio recordings
04:54 that may show child abuse, and any communications between Hildebrandt and Frank.
04:58 After Hildebrandt was arrested, she said the two youngest children should never be allowed
05:02 around any other kids, an officer wrote in a search warrant.
05:05 Hildebrandt, who is a licensed mental health counselor, has agreed not to see patients
05:09 until the allegations are addressed by state licensing officials.
05:13 Last week, Frank's sister broke down in a video in which she blamed the YouTube influencer
05:17 for causing their mother's heart attack and revealed how she destroyed their lives offline.
05:22 Bonnie Holling teared up as she said their mother's health rapidly declined when Ruby
05:26 cut her family off.
05:27 Before her sister was sensationally arrested for child abuse, Frank gained millions of
05:31 YouTube subscribers and online followers through her 8 Passengers channel about parenting but
05:36 viewers repeatedly complained about the way she treated her children.
05:39 Holling, also a YouTuber who is based in Utah, hosted the nearly 10-minute long video titled
05:44 "I am not my sister's psyched crimes."
05:47 Frank's husband, Kevin Frank, who she shares six children with, Sherry, Chad, Abby, Julie,
05:53 Russell and Eve, has said he is trying to keep his children together following the arrests.
05:57 The video came after all three of her sisters, who are all YouTubers, posted a joint statement
06:02 to Instagram which said, "For the last three years we have kept quiet on the subject of
06:06 our sister Ruby Frank for the sake of her children.
06:09 They said they wouldn't feel right about moving forward with regular content without
06:12 addressing the most recent events.
06:14 Once we do, we will not be commenting on it further."
06:17 The statement said, "Ruby was arrested which needed to happen.
06:20 Jodi was arrested which needed to happen.
06:22 The kids are now safe, which is the number one priority."
06:25 Frank was taken into custody after the two children were found starved with open wounds
06:29 and duct tape on their extremities.
06:31 Police were called after a child climbed out of the window of Hildebrandt's home and
06:34 ran to a neighbor pleading for food and water.
06:37 The neighbor saw the child's wounds and immediately dialed 911, before another child
06:42 was also found in a similar physical condition of malnourishment.
06:45 Since the arrests, an online form has been created which documents examples of worrying
06:50 statements made by Frank and Hildebrandt in their videos.
06:53 Her estranged daughter Sherry has since said police were warned for years about the allegations
06:57 before they finally acted.
06:59 Her daughter Sherry has now claimed relatives have been trying to tell the police and CPS
07:03 for years about this, adding that she was so glad they finally decided to step up and
07:07 the kids were safe.
07:09 She posted the message to Instagram with a photo of police outside the home captioned
07:13 "Finally."
07:14 This comes after a relative of Frank said the news of her child abuse case is "disgusting"
07:18 but the problem is "bigger than people know."
07:21 The unnamed cousin of Frank claimed this is not the first time their family has experienced
07:25 this behavior.
07:26 Other members have also duct taped, handcuffed and starved kids.
07:29 They described the unprovoked child abuse and slapping that took place in their house
07:33 as a child and said that after watching Ruby's YouTube channel "8 Passengers" briefly,
07:38 they said they noticed Ruby's same mannerisms.
07:41 Abusing children, being physical and withholding food is something that has been a multi-generational
07:45 problem in the Frank family, claimed the cousin.
07:48 The family member, who said the charges of child abuse are "disgusting," said their
07:52 entire family tree from the roots to the branches is "blighted."
07:55 The cousin of Frank, whose identity was concealed, told Law & Crime, "I'm not shocked.
08:00 It's not a shock at all.
08:01 The direction in which it went was not what I thought, but from which it came was to be
08:05 expected.
08:06 I wasn't expecting some of the details in that story to line up with details in my own
