Detroit Lions linebacker James Houston has been placed on theh injured reserve list after fracturing his fibula.
Transcript
00:00 John, on top of the Lions, various injuries. James Houston now will miss some time with an injury himself.
00:05 What do you make of that news for Detroit?
00:08 Yeah, Vito. The Detroit Lions defensive line really has struggled in the early part of the season with the pass rush.
00:15 And when you lose a pass rush specialist on third down, like James Houston,
00:19 who recorded eight sacks in his debut campaign, man, if you get a chance online to see,
00:24 he was playing on special teams and a Seahawks defender just absolutely wiped him out.
00:29 Caused a reported fractured ankle, which will likely keep the talented defensive lineman out of action for probably six to eight weeks.
00:38 You look at James Houston and he was an emerging young player and obviously playing linebacker as well.
00:44 It was working to really earn the spot to play a little bit more, being versatile, playing up on the line, playing linebacker,
00:52 having the opportunity to expand his horizons.
00:55 To lose a player of that caliber is unfortunate, especially for the duration. A couple months being without a pass rusher, Vito, it's unfortunate.
01:03 You look at the Detroit Lions and this is a football team that's young, but still in a development mode and still building.
01:11 And you needed this football team to be healthy, especially in the early part of the year.
01:15 You're playing the caliber teams like the Chiefs, the Seahawks, who have had good success against you for the last couple of years.
01:24 Now I'm looking ahead, playing the Falcons and the Green Bay Packers.
01:28 You need as much help as possible defensively and to not have James Houston out there is going to be felt.
01:35 The defense is going to feel the loss of a talented young linebacker and defensive lineman.
01:41 John, thanks for all the time.
