Evaluating Detroit Lions re-signing cornerback Emmanuel Moseley.
Transcript
00:00 John, the Lions have resigned quarterback Emmanuel Mosley.
00:03 Now, what do you make of that being the case for the Detroit Lions?
00:05 Yeah, Vito, I'm a little surprised just based on the fact that Mosley is coming
00:10 off of two significant leg injuries in 2023, only played two snaps for the
00:15 Lions to ACL injuries in consecutive seasons. It's interesting in that the
00:21 Detroit Lions wanted to invest one more year in a player that did not see the
00:25 field at all in 2023, only played two snaps. As a reminder, you look at the
00:30 Detroit Lions secondary. It needs a lot of help. Basically, it's Cam Sutton and
00:35 nobody else that you can trust and rely upon. And you look at Aaron Glenn's
00:39 defense and boy, what would have happened had Emmanuel Mosley stayed
00:44 healthy? I think the Detroit Lions are interested in his physicality, his
00:48 tackling ability. Look, he stayed around after some rehabilitation. He came back
00:53 to the locker room and was part of the team. So I do think the coaching staff
00:58 is interested to see what he can bring to the table. Look, the financial
01:02 investment is not gonna be long. It's only a one year contract. He's not
01:06 gonna break the bank. But you just look at that position, Vito. I understand
01:11 the need for competition, but at the same time, the best ability in the
01:15 National Football League is availability. So Emmanuel Mosley has a
01:19 tough hill to climb. Another long rehabilitation process. You do realize
01:23 that the A. C. L. You know, now the medical advancements has made it so
01:27 that players can come back and be productive. But when you look at a
01:31 position of need for the Detroit Lions, you're hoping for healthy players that
01:35 can compete. I was hoping for a free agent signing and a couple draft picks
01:41 at that spot. But when you look at a 90 man roster, at least heading into
01:45 training camp, it will be interesting to see how Emmanuel Mosley does fit in.
01:50 And for most people, I do agree that it's a low risk, high potential
01:55 opportunity for the Detroit Lions defense. If it doesn't work out, I
01:58 don't think it's gonna be very cost prohibitive. I just think that for the
02:01 Lions, you need so many more weapons and more defensive talent that I just
02:07 think that signing that to me just kind of shows that Brad Holmes is really
02:13 loyal to players and wants to prove that, hey, signings that he makes, he
02:17 wants to really give the player an opportunity to showcase what they're
02:20 about. So in 2023, the Lions did not really get a chance to fully evaluate
02:24 Emmanuel Mosley. Now, in 2024, they'll have that chance. Hopefully he can
02:29 stay healthy so that he can showcase what he can bring to the table. And
02:33 Dan Campbell did say if there's a player that can come back from two
02:37 significant leg injuries, it's Emmanuel Mosley. And you hope for him and for
02:42 the sake of his career that he's able to stay healthy in 2024. And John, I
02:46 bet this won't be the only move made by the Lions that quarterback this
02:48 offseason, too. We got to keep that in mind as well. John, thanks for all the
02:51 time.
