Kirk Cousins on Vikings' Loss to Chargers
Transcript
00:00 Disappointing to be 0-3, disappointing
00:02 to lose the way we did.
00:05 Left too many plays out there.
00:06 You have to score touchdowns in the red zone
00:08 to win in this league.
00:09 We didn't do that today.
00:10 And Chargers did a good job.
00:14 They made plays.
00:16 And proud of the way guys battled.
00:19 I think we have a lot of playmakers on this team.
00:21 I thought Justin was his usual self.
00:23 I thought TJ was great.
00:24 I thought Jordan Addison was big time
00:26 and is going to become a big time player in this league.
00:28 I thought he was outstanding.
00:32 So I'm just going to continue to be a point guard
00:34 and distribute to those guys and try to get better
00:37 at doing that every week.
00:38 But we've dug ourselves a hole and we've
00:41 got a long way to climb out.
00:42 So take any questions you have.
00:44 What did you guys struggle with going down?
00:47 A combination of factors, I'd say.
00:49 Not any one thing.
00:51 Curtis, on the last play, Kevin said that you couldn't hear him.
00:55 Was it the noise?
00:56 Was it the headset going in and out?
00:58 What was going on there?
00:59 Yeah, I just couldn't hear him and the noise.
01:00 And just ended up calling a play.
01:02 And the play I called was the same play he was trying to get
01:04 to.
01:05 So you never did fully hear him?
01:07 You just kind of--
01:07 Correct.
01:08 --interpreted what he--
01:09 Yeah, I just called a play.
01:10 And we always practice that.
01:12 If headset goes out, what do you call it?
01:13 And I just called a play and it ended up
01:14 being the same one he wanted.
01:15 When it's kind of chaotic right there and you can't hear it,
01:18 do you have the authority to go up and clock it
01:20 to get guys to do that?
01:21 Or do you have to just run a play?
01:23 Well, I mean, I can do anything I want.
01:25 I can quarterback sneak.
01:25 And I can do whatever I want.
01:26 But at the same time, you've got to also deal
01:28 with the consequences.
01:28 I went up against Buffalo last year.
01:29 I snuck it on my own and didn't get in.
01:31 So until you know the future, it's
01:33 hard to know whether to take the reins or not.
01:35 But I've done it before and trying to make a habit of it,
01:39 certainly.
01:40 What's the thought process of not clocking it there?
01:42 Is it just so that they can't sub
01:43 and you can keep them caught on their heels?
01:45 I don't know.
01:48 You have to ask Kevin.
01:49 I was just trying to do it, trying to get up and call play
01:51 and go.
01:54 Kirk, walking off, it looked like after we got over,
01:57 you went up to Justin, who was kind of standing there
01:59 by himself, and talking to him.
02:00 What are you trying to provide him?
02:03 Well, I just told him to hang tough.
02:05 Nothing fancy in that moment.
02:07 But he gave us everything he had, and everybody else did too.
02:11 And that's why it's deeply disappointing.
02:18 Kevin talked about the fact he's been
02:20 on a team that has lost three in a row before and gone
02:23 to win a championship.
02:24 What's your level of optimism, or do
02:27 you have a message for your teammates at the moment,
02:29 just being on three?
02:30 I mean, it's a long football season.
02:32 And we're going to be here in December and January
02:34 talking to you guys.
02:35 And this will feel like a long time ago.
02:39 And we've got a lot of opportunities up ahead.
02:42 I just try to go 1-0 each week.
02:44 I kind of view them as separate stages, like a tour de France.
02:46 And I don't really connect them.
02:50 I view them as 1-0.
02:51 And then whatever happens, you just kind of erase that week.
02:53 and you start a week fresh and you just do that 17 times
02:56 and see where you are in early, mid-January.
