00:04 Multi-million pound plans to improve road safety and reduce accidents have moved a step
00:08 closer on two notorious Derbyshire highways.
00:12 Derbyshire County Council's Cabinet approved the latest stage for two projects, with road
00:17 safety improvements planned for a 9-mile stretch of the A5012 between Cromford and Newhaven,
00:23 and a 7.5-mile stretch of the A5004 between Buxton and Whaley Bridge.
00:28 It comes after improvements have already been carried out along the A619.
00:33 The Viagelia Road and Long Hill Road were identified along with the A619 Baslow to Baple
00:38 Road known as the 'Thirteen Bends' as being among the 50 highest risk roads in England,
00:43 according to the Government.
00:45 The County Council subsequently received a share of £175 million from the Safer Roads
00:51 Fund to carry out safety improvements on these routes.
00:55 Work will include reducing speed limits, introducing average speed cameras and redesigning some
01:00 road junctions, as well as improving pavements and providing better cycle connections.
