00:00 This CCTV footage shows the moment the Channel 9 journalist approached a staff member at
00:07 the Holtz United petrol station in October last year.
00:11 After a brief interaction, she can be seen being directed to the side, where she was
00:16 given unfettered access to security footage from the site.
00:20 What was said in those moments is at the centre of a legal battle in the Darwin local court
00:25 today.
00:26 26-year-old Georgie Dickerson pleaded not guilty to allegations she impersonated a police
00:32 officer in order to obtain a recording of an incident the night before involving a citizen's
00:37 arrest by MLA Mark Turner.
00:40 The outlet's supervisor at the time, Samir Devkhoda, told the court in an area rife with
00:45 crime, it was not uncommon for plain-clothed officers to show up three or four times a
00:51 month requesting CCTV, and that he'd been expecting a visit from police to view footage
00:57 that day.
00:58 He said, "Before the incident, we didn't ask for ID, but after the incident, we ask."
01:04 Questioned if Ms Dickerson ever revealed she was a journalist, he said no.
01:09 But during a lengthy cross-examination, Ms Dickerson's lawyer cast doubt.
01:15 She suggested Mr Devkhoda panicked and said he'd been tricked by someone saying they
01:19 were a police officer.
01:21 You told a silly little lie because you were worried about your job.
01:25 Ms Chalmers further alleged an NT police officer caught him red-handed the next day, showing
01:31 MLA Mark Turner the same CCTV footage, which is also not permitted.
01:38 She then suggested it was a possibility there had been a miscommunication on a busy day
01:43 in which he was wearing an AirPod in his left ear.
01:46 The matter has been adjourned until next week.
