00:00 - Let's all go to the movies, let's all go to the movies.
00:04 What a good time to go to the movies, Miss Vicki,
00:05 am I right?
00:06 - It is getting better by the day, Brad.
00:09 - First, let's say the writer's strike is over.
00:12 - Yay!
00:13 - And so we're gonna start seeing movies pop up,
00:15 but they won't be promoted
00:16 because the actor's strike is still going on.
00:18 So that's why some of these movies you might be, you know.
00:21 - We'll see TV come back, live TV for one thing.
00:23 - That'll be good.
00:24 Okay, let's talk what's going on this week.
00:27 Well, Brad, the first movie I have
00:30 is a little movie called "On Fire"
00:32 that believe it or not, one of the co-writers was a viewer.
00:36 - No!
00:37 - Who called in and said, "Please have her review my movie."
00:40 Isn't that funny?
00:40 It's called "On Fire" and you know how every season
00:45 in Arizona, our whole up north goes up in flames.
00:48 And this is starting to happen more often worldwide.
00:52 You know, Greece just got through
00:53 with all these fires and everything.
00:55 - Maui, Hawaii, I mean.
00:56 - And this is about a family that has a mountain retreat
01:00 and they get trapped and are not able to get out in time.
01:05 So the whole thing is about them
01:06 trying to get to rescue to safe haven.
01:09 But their lives, I felt sorry for them.
01:11 It's kind of like Murphy's law.
01:13 If it's gonna go wrong in their rescue,
01:15 it's gonna go wrong.
01:17 But they keep fighting.
01:19 This little movie is in theaters only.
01:22 I do think that it has a lot of potential.
01:27 It's on a budget and it shows in some of the fire scenes.
01:30 But basically, and I wasn't crazy about some of the score.
01:34 They tended to put hyped up music
01:37 in scenes that weren't hyped up
01:39 so that they could tie it into the hyped up music at the end.
01:42 But those were the only bad parts, really.
01:45 It really is a decent movie, decent performances.
01:48 Lance Henriksen is in it.
01:50 He's so old, but my God, Lance is in so many
01:54 independent little films these days.
01:55 And he does not call it inbred.
01:57 He delivers, even in a tiny role.
02:00 I really enjoyed this movie.
02:02 I give it between two and a half and three Red Vines.
02:05 I'm siding on the three Red Vines side.
02:08 Everybody, it's a local author.
02:10 Get out there and support him.
02:10 - I was gonna say, this is very cool.
02:12 This is awesome.
02:13 Watches our show.
02:14 - His name is Ron Pierre.
02:15 There you go, Ron.
02:16 - Ron, awesome.
02:17 That's pretty cool.
02:18 - Yeah, really cool.
02:19 You're really cool.
02:20 - We should have Ron in sometime.
02:21 - You should.
02:22 It's not his first movie, either.
02:23 - It isn't.
02:24 - He's in a couple of other little movies.
02:26 So he's out there working and making the dream happen.
02:29 - Ron, good job.
02:30 - Yeah.
02:31 - So thanks for watching us.
02:32 Keep on watching us, Ron.
02:33 - Yeah.
02:34 - Okay, now, our next one.
02:34 - The next one.
02:36 Brad, I have so much to say about this movie.
02:38 It's not funny.
02:39 It's called The Creator.
02:41 And a lot of people, it has escaped their radar.
02:44 And this is what I think.
02:45 I don't think the studios were supporting it.
02:47 And the rumor is, or the talk, the scuttle,
02:50 is that they weren't supporting it
02:52 because they felt like the cast were basically unknowns.
02:55 They're not unknowns, as you pointed out to me.
02:59 - I said, wait, hold on, hold on.
03:00 - Yeah.
03:01 - One of the leads.
03:02 - Yeah, what, John David Washington?
03:04 - Denzel Washington's son.
03:06 - Yeah, Denzel's son.
03:07 - Denzel's son.
03:08 - Hey, Allison Janney's got a good part in it, too.
03:11 But there's a little girl who is an unknown,
03:14 never acted, never done anything.
03:16 I think she was only six or seven.
03:17 She is amazing.
03:20 This movie is about the war between humans and AI robots.
03:24 So you might, you know, we've had movies like this before,
03:27 but I will say this belongs in that echelon
03:30 of really classic sci-fi, like Blade Runner,
03:34 The Terminator, RoboCop.
03:36 If you like those kind of movies,
03:37 you're gonna like The Creator.
03:39 If you like thoughtful sci-fi, like Children of Men,
03:42 you're gonna like The Creator.
03:43 If you like big screen action, fighting scenes,
03:48 adventure, heroes that you can cheer,
03:51 like in the Marvel movies, you're gonna love The Creator.
03:55 This movie is firing on all cylinders.
03:58 It also was done on a budget and is changing the way
04:01 some things are gonna be done in the future.
04:03 But you're starting to see trailers now
04:05 and you're starting to hear about it.
04:06 And why?
04:07 Because critics and people who have seen this
04:09 are saying this movie is everything.
04:12 I'm saying that not only is this one of the best sci-fi
04:15 movies I've ever seen, it is the best movie
04:19 I've seen so far this year.
04:21 - Wow.
04:21 - I give it five Red Vines.
04:23 I would give it more if I gave out more.
04:26 It is that good.
04:28 I walked in and in the first five minutes, 10 minutes,
04:32 they showed this like movie tone reel,
04:34 like the old fashioned ones,
04:36 telling us all about the great things
04:38 that we have with AI in our life.
04:40 And it was so charming.
04:41 And if you know me and my style,
04:42 I was like hooked in the first 10 seconds.
04:45 - What a great way to give you the exposition
04:46 because from that on, you're in the war
04:49 and it doesn't let up.
04:50 - I like it. - Really good.
04:52 I just can't say enough about it.
04:54 - There it is.
04:55 - You gotta see the creator.
04:56 - I am, I was seeing things and I even was,
04:58 I guess, watching some football past weekend
05:03 and they had like the little computer kids
05:06 out at the game and different stuff.
05:08 - Yeah, yeah.
05:09 - Kind of like the AI kids.
05:09 It was like really weird.
05:10 People were like, oh, those are robots, but they're actors.
05:11 - I think they're finally starting to support it.
05:13 And I think they're supporting it
05:14 because people are saying this movie's great.
05:16 And like the studio's like, yeah, let's support this movie.
05:19 - I like it.
05:20 - It got lost in the shuffle with all the big ones,
05:22 but oh my gosh, it's making an impact.
05:24 - There you go.
05:24 Some two great ones to go see.
05:26 Looking forward to next week
05:27 'cause we got a couple of that we're gonna talk.
05:29 And we're gonna talk about the movie industry
05:31 and how it might be going to shorter movies
05:35 after you complain about movies are way too long
05:37 and there's no time for a bath and break
05:39 and you can't enjoy your big old drink of soda.
05:41 - Embrace the short movies.
05:43 And what they're gonna do is start doing it almost,
05:45 I don't know if they'll put it intermission,
05:46 but they're gonna loop like a couple
05:47 of the short ones together.
05:49 'Cause they're talking real short.
05:50 The one I'm gonna see tonight, I believe,
05:51 is like less than 40 minutes.
05:53 - Wow.
05:54 That's it right there.
05:55 I love it.
05:56 Vicki, tell them where they can find you.
05:58 - Friday's with you, Brad, right here on The Daily Mix
06:01 and on Facebook under Flick Chick Vicki.
06:04 - There you go.
06:05 Thank you, Vicki.
