00:03 The prayer will be offered by guest chaplain, Head Granthi Gani Jaswinder Singh from Pinehill,
00:10 New Jersey.
00:18 Good morning.
00:20 Let us pray.
00:34 Almighty God, Vaheguru, we call you by many names.
00:41 What you are one.
00:44 Keep your divine hand over the members of this house as they help steer the future of
00:55 our great nation.
00:58 Keep truth on our tongues, love in our hearts, and sound judgment in our minds.
01:09 Remind us of our purpose to love and serve one another and create a more peaceful world.
01:22 We ask for blessings unto all leaders as they work for the common good.
01:33 Gave all who govern this land humility, courage, integrity, and compassion.
01:44 Release each one of us from ego so that we may serve selflessly.
01:53 Help us remember that we belong to one family.
02:00 Realize the entire human race as one.
02:05 We ask of the Almighty to also keep watch over our nation's protectors who work tirelessly,
02:17 day and night, to ensure our safety and our freedom.
02:26 You are everywhere.
02:29 All are yours.
02:31 Whatever is seen, O God, is your form.
02:37 My Lord, you are what one.
02:42 In the name of Nanak, find everlasting optimism with your will, Almighty God.
02:52 May there be grace for the entire humanity.
02:58 I bow to all the martyrs.
03:02 Glory to Guruji.
03:04 Victory to Guruji.
03:07 Glory to the Supreme.
03:14 General Singh, I am the media spokesman for Sikh Coordination Committee East Coast, which
03:22 is an umbrella organization of more than 150 U.S. Burduras.
03:29 It's been in existence since 2015.
03:31 Today we are here for a very historic event.
03:38 Today for the first time ever in the history of U.S. Congress, the house session started
03:46 with a Sikh prayer.
03:49 Jani Jiswinder Singh, who's standing on my left, he's the head priest of Sikh Gurudwara
03:57 Pine Hill in New Jersey.
04:00 He's the one who offered the prayer.
04:05 Though the Sikhs have been here in this country for more than 100 years, it took us that long
04:11 to get this prayer event.
04:13 So this is a very, very happy occasion for the Sikh community, for the whole global Sikh
04:18 community.
04:20 And I want to congratulate all the Sikhs and all the congressmen and the congressional
04:25 staff, especially Donald Norcross, who's my congressman from South Jersey, to make it
04:34 happen.
04:36 The other congressmen from U.S. Congressional Sikh Caucus, Brendan Boyle, Valadero from
04:43 California, and Mary Gay Scanlon from Delaware County, and many other congressmen, Jim Costa,
04:51 he's also part of Sikh Caucus.
04:53 They all supported and helped us to make this happen.
04:59 So we are very thankful to all of these people.
05:01 Can you tell us something about the prayer, what the prayer was?
05:05 The prayer was to tell that universality of all the human race.
05:13 Our priest said that first thing we started with one, Ekam Kaur Satgur Prasad, which is
05:20 one's universal creator, God.
05:24 And then we also prayed for the members of this Congress who are working for the protection
05:30 of the free world and all the Americans over here.
05:35 And also it ended with, Nanak Naam Chirdi Kala, Tere Pane Sir Bakta Pala, in the name
05:42 of Nanak, we wish and pray for the whole humanity as one race.
05:52 So this was the message which was given.
05:55 And so that's really the universal message of Sikhism.
