00:00 Welcome to Mojo Plays and today we're taking a look at 10 hidden secrets in Starfield.
00:11 The Pyramids of Giza
00:17 If you wound up heading to Earth super early in your playthrough, like I did, you might
00:21 have been disappointed to see that our beloved home has now become a dried up wasteland of
00:26 chlorine, mercury, lead, chlorosaline, and what little water remains.
00:32 Considering this is a far dystopian look into our planet's future in the absence of civilization,
00:37 one has to wonder what landmarks might remain, such as the Great Pyramids of Giza.
00:42 Thing is that you'll need to nab some books for the pyramids and other landmarks to be
00:47 seen.
00:48 In this case, you'll need to buy a book from Sinclair called The Ancient Civilization of
00:52 Egypt, and don't forget to collect that snow globe!
01:02 Classic Literature
01:06 Speaking of books, there is a wide variety of classic literature that you can find throughout
01:10 your time in Starfield.
01:12 Of course, you won't be able to read the full versions of every single one of these,
01:16 only excerpts.
01:17 Though they don't serve much purpose in the game, besides selling certain books to
01:22 Sinclair, they might be worth keeping around just in case you want a taste of some historical
01:26 stories you may not have read before.
01:29 Some books we've found so far include Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens, Moby Dick by Herman
01:34 Melville, and even Frankenstein by Mary Shelley.
01:44 Curiosity
02:00 As one might expect from a game so heavily inspired by the National Aeronautics and Space
02:05 Administration, Starfield pays tribute to a few of the organization's missions.
02:10 What made the rover Curiosity so special was its successful landing on Mars and its extensive
02:15 investigation into the planet's environments which has been ongoing since its landing back
02:19 in 2012.
02:20 And you can see Curiosity for yourself in Starfield.
02:24 Sort of.
02:26 Some locations feature a hefty piece of machinery that looks an awful lot like the rover's
02:30 head cameras.
02:31 As for the rest of it, well, who knows what happened.
02:35 Maybe Starfield's Curiosity hit a few snags on its way back to Earth and had its remains
02:39 repurposed.
02:45 Opportunity
02:46 For those unfamiliar, Opportunity was another rover that NASA launched back in 2003, long
02:51 before Curiosity.
02:53 Unfortunately, a massive dust storm ended its 15 year mission as NASA could not get
02:58 a response from the rover.
03:00 Over 1,000 signals were sent by NASA between 2018 and 2019 before the organization declared
03:06 its mission was finished.
03:08 To find Opportunity in Starfield, you will need to either read a book about its missions
03:12 or visit the NASA museum during your mission Unearthed and find Opportunity's exhibit.
03:18 Explore Mars long enough after and you might stumble upon the now decrepit machine.
03:23 The Empire State Building
03:33 Going back to Earth, you can find the heart of New York while exploring the desolate fictional
03:37 version of our world.
03:39 However, triggering its appearance does require the same steps as the Pyramids of Giza.
03:44 The book you will need to read up on is called Our Lost Heritage.
03:47 In case you want an easy to access copy, just head to the Mast Tower in New Atlantis and
03:53 grab it from President Abello's office.
03:55 She won't mind.
03:56 Hopefully.
03:57 Scammers
03:58 In our time of visiting new civilizations and the occasional bounty hunter coming for
04:15 our heads, there is one strange encounter some of you might discover.
04:20 In my playthrough, I decided to take some time to go explore the solar system, and when
04:25 I arrived in Pluto's orbit, I was greeted with a ship that claimed it was trying to
04:29 reach me about my ship's extended warranty.
04:33 Now normally, one might inquire and think that Starfield wouldn't have such a shady
04:38 cat such as this, but I'm going to spare you the trouble.
04:42 This is a shoot on sight situation.
04:44 Do not entertain it.
04:46 Just start firing.
04:55 The Mantis
04:56 Bethesda games are no stranger to the occasional campy superhero tropes.
05:07 We had the Mechanist in Fallout 3, and the Silver Shroud in Fallout 4.
05:12 So what does Starfield have?
05:14 The Mantis, and it's one of the coolest quests to come across.
05:18 Now, do note that access to the Mantis is completely randomized.
05:23 You can trigger it by looting any random spacer you come across, or in some other missions
05:27 and acquire a datapad labeled "Secret Outpost."
05:31 Once you locate this "Secret Outpost," you'll be faced with a perplexing puzzle.
05:35 No, we're not telling you what it is, but solving it will be well worth your while.
05:46 Charybdis 3
05:47 Charybdis 3 is a planet that features a special kind of society, one where clones of historical
06:06 figures from throughout time live in peace and harmony.
06:09 Okay, that last part was a lie.
06:11 There's some shady stuff happening behind the scenes, though.
06:14 There are a few quests you can do here, too, and one of them will net you a very special
06:18 companion.
06:25 A Note for Alex Hay
06:27 Since its reveal in 2018, we had spent at least five years eagerly waiting to play Starfield,
06:33 even longer for the super hardcore Bethesda fans who had known about the game's existence
06:37 years prior.
06:38 Unfortunately, not all of us made it.
06:41 Alex Hay was the developer of Toolbox Pro and a number of other mobile applications,
06:46 and was one of the biggest fans behind the game during its development.
06:50 He sadly passed away in early 2023 due to lung cancer.
06:55 To honor him, Bethesda put in a special note hidden in the eye, and it is truly heartwarming
07:00 to read.
07:01 Rest in peace, Alex.
07:03 Apollo 11
07:09 To end things on a somewhat brighter note, here is one other piece of NASA history you
07:14 can find.
07:15 Yes, you can visit the first moon landing.
07:19 Much like the other landmarks, you will have to find a certain object to make the location
07:24 available.
07:25 Yes, it is a book, and you can actually find a copy of it in the lodge.
07:29 Plenty of opportunity to search high and low in this place, it seems.
07:33 Be sure to snap a good photo with the American flag, or Apollo 11 itself, before you resume
07:38 your travels.
07:47 What secrets have you uncovered in your journey across the stars?
07:50 Let us know down in the comments.
08:00 Thanks for watching.
