Coaching Jihaad Campbell and ILBs to have disciplined eye control
Transcript
00:00 >> Coach, Jihad got a start this past weekend, obviously at the interception,
00:03 but maybe missed a little.
00:04 How do you coach him to have correct eyes in the backfield with all the motions and
00:09 movements that Mississippi State did?
00:12 >> Yeah, well, we practice it all week.
00:15 Discipline and eye control is one of the most important things in playing football.
00:21 And everybody grows up watching the ball.
00:26 I've talked about this before.
00:28 So that's how you watch a game.
00:31 But when you're playing the game, you have specific keys and things to look at.
00:36 Like if the guard pulls, it doesn't matter which way the bat goes.
00:40 Your key says go this way.
00:42 When they run a slider, you gotta know when you gotta fall back and when you don't.
00:47 All right, so we just gotta keep working and working and working on those things.
00:52 So that, and I think communication helps that.
00:57 And we're constantly on the secondary to communicate.
01:03 Because if they communicate, it makes it easier for
01:07 the linebackers to know how and what they're supposed to do.
01:10 So Jihad makes a lot of plays, and he's developing nicely at the position.
01:17 But experience is gonna be critical for him to continue to grow and develop.
01:22 >> All right, thanks, Coach.
01:23 >> All right, thank you.
