00:00 Let's do sports now on the AM show with me Muftawa Nabila Abdoulaye on
00:04 Monday the Africa Games local organizing committee and
00:08 representatives of African Union
00:10 Told the facilities that we host in the games next year
00:15 My colleague Mbarek Haruna was there and he comes through with this report
00:18 Another chance for Ghana to prove it is on course to host Africa's biggest sports event
00:29 Representatives from some of the countries on the continent were present to see for themselves
00:34 The progress made at the venues designated for the games
00:39 The tour began at the Legon Stadium where the facility appears to be far from being near completion
00:49 Work is still ongoing to better the grass
00:53 Tartan tracks for both the stadium and the warm-up field are yet to be designed and other areas like the
01:00 Directors box the media tribune are all
01:03 uncompleted
01:06 But all is not gloomy though work is still ongoing
01:11 The rugby turf seems to be in good shape with only final touches remaining and even better
01:19 Improvement of the field the designated area for the athletes to have a successful stay for the games appears ready
01:26 The Legon facility
01:31 inspection has been completed and now it's time to proceed with the assessment of the Baltimore sports complex a
01:38 Noteworthy development is the construction of a road that directly connects to the Baltimore facility
01:46 According to contractors this road is considered safe and a crucial piece of the puzzle
02:15 However inside the facility has many unfinished projects for the event over 20 sporting disciplines
02:22 including swimming tennis and
02:24 Basketball will be hosted at a venue
02:27 It's been a roller coaster period as far as preparation for the games is concerned
02:33 But over the last few months there's been some improvement in terms of direction of buildings for the various sporting events
02:42 But the job is not done yet
02:45 There's still a lot more to do and time will tell if indeed they can meet the deadline in December
02:52 Construction progress stands at 59% with 49% remaining to be completed
03:00 However, the overall completion rate is at 87%
03:05 Officials say the government has invested over
03:10 180 million dollars in the project and additional support from corporate Ghana can accelerate the completion of the work
03:18 so far government has invested about 195 million dollars and
03:22 That is not
03:26 We've got that has nothing to do with operational cost
03:29 it's solely for infrastructure a building of the facilities here and then at Lego and
03:36 Government will have to also give the LSD money for operations
03:40 So that's that will also be added to what so far has been sunk into the project
03:46 and then we are saying that
03:49 Corporate bodies can also complement the efforts of
03:54 As done so far the inspection team expressed their satisfaction
03:59 With a progress of work done during the tour. They also extended their gratitude
04:06 Government of Ghana for its
04:08 In ensuring that the preparations are on track
04:13 I think we are very happy with the progress that has been made so far
04:17 And we are the African Union is very very grateful with the great investment
04:21 That the government of the Republic of Ghana has put into the construction of the facilities
04:27 last time when we were here we were assured by the
04:31 LLC that by December all the facilities will be
04:35 Completed and ready for for the games and for sure this time. We just
04:40 Visited Legon. It's nearly complete and here we are now when I see the overall percentage there
04:47 I think it is about 87%
04:49 so this is very impressive and the Confederations who are the custodians of sports in terms of
04:57 Who are the custodians of appreciating the technical aspects of the organizations of the game the organization of the games rather
05:04 They were very impressed and they are very supportive and they were very happy
05:08 the Sun in the glass continues to fall and
05:13 Acid descends the anticipation for the games
05:16 Intensifies with just five months left
05:20 There is a heightened awareness that preparations need to be completed quickly to meet the deadline
05:27 in December
05:29 Haruna Mubarak for Joyce Wars
05:31 And let's talk club football now and
05:35 chairman of the Ghana League clubs association

07:55 On Monday
08:01 we reported that
08:02 Media Met SC, proud to be a CAFG champion league tie against Guinea and Oponet
08:08 Horoya
08:10 They had received a letter from their sponsor
08:13 Goldfields telling them that they were not going to sponsor the activities of the club anymore
08:19 Well, there is a confirmation of that story for the member of Parliament for Takwa
08:26 Mekuduka who says that
08:29 Goldfields should rescind their decision of not supporting the club
08:36 Our league is being re-energized
08:39 The soccer fraternity must be happy
08:43 We mustn't only glorify
08:46 The teams in the diaspora
08:51 but also glorify our teams and
08:54 motivate them. We need to motivate ourselves. It's not only the
08:59 teams
09:01 in foreign countries and who will be wearing their t-shirts
09:05 We've been spending more time
09:09 discussing foreign teams than in our local matches
09:14 Referees must be
09:17 motivated
09:20 Teams of clubs
09:22 The entire playing body in this country must be equally motivated and directed
09:31 When they are influenced by positive
09:34 comments, we kind of reshape our
09:38 sporting fraternity. On this note, thank you very much for the attention
09:44 I believe come December where we will be playing in Tapa
