00:00 Newcastle United 4 PSG 1 here at St James' Park in the Champions League
00:08 tonight. I'm quite stunned actually Newcastle were absolutely sensational
00:16 against the league and champions blew them away in the first half and I thought
00:24 everyone to a man was incredible the first 45 minutes Newcastle thoroughly
00:29 deserved to go lead PSG shell-shocked the atmosphere in here just they
00:35 couldn't live with it they couldn't live with Newcastle the high press high
00:38 intensity Bruno absolutely ran the midfield Miguel Almiron continues his
00:43 great form got the first goal really underrated finish I think for Miguel
00:46 Almiron when people sort of pounce on rebounded efforts and finishes can be
00:53 underrated but Miguel Almiron to hit that first time of pace find the bottom
00:56 right hand corner give Newcastle the perfect start of the game and then from
01:00 there Newcastle stay on the front foot Dan Byrne approaching half-time header
01:06 initially I thought it was a great save by Donnarumma but BAR check on side and
01:12 it did cross the line so yeah 2-0 and Newcastle very good value for it and
01:18 after the break Sean Longstaff then makes it 3-0 Lucas Hernandez pulls the
01:23 goal back for PSG shortly after and PSG do get a bit of a foothold in the game
01:26 after that but then Fabian Scheer incredible wins the ball back 1-2 with
01:31 Jake Murphy finds the top right hand corner goal of the round and Newcastle
01:37 this is the Champions League the entire world will have stood up and took notice
01:42 of Eddie Howe's side tonight and we're speaking in the press room before I think
01:47 if you're looking at nights at St. James's Park this is a historic one is
01:52 it the greatest night ever at St. James's Park well obviously a certain
01:58 generation in the press room were saying the Barcelona game I'm too young for
02:02 that for that so I can't can't vouch for that one but certainly reporting here or
02:08 watching a game here I don't think it comes much better than that
02:14 they've gone up against Newcastle one of the best teams in world football as the
02:19 day they against Manchester City the other day a much changed Manchester City
02:22 team but gone up against PSG and made them look ordinary they've absolutely
02:29 torn them to shreds 4-1 their biggest ever Champions League win and
02:34 thoroughly deserved a special night and I think a lot will get made I've tweeted
02:40 this out a lot will get made of the millions Newcastle has spent and they
02:44 have spent a lot to get to this point finish fourth and get in the Champions
02:48 League but Newcastle's goal scorers tonight you're looking Miguel Alnon
02:51 here long before the takeover Fabian Scheer long before the takeover
02:55 Sean Longstaff Academy graduate Dan Byrne local lad obviously brought in
03:01 after the takeover but there's a there's a local court of this team and a very
03:06 likable court of this team players who once deemed not good enough for the
03:10 Premier League are now shining literally shining in Europe against some of the
03:16 world's best players and I think it was a fitting moment to see Jamal Lassell
03:21 lead the team out tonight I asked Eddie Howe afterwards this is a player who
03:25 look he's he's had his critics over the years a lot of it or some of it is
03:28 certainly being warranted and when Newcastle just weren't at it but hasn't
03:33 really put a foot wrong since Eddie Howe's come in and whenever he's been
03:37 called upon which hasn't been a lot but this is a player who earned his name
03:40 earned his reputation and his captaincy you could say from sort of holding
03:47 Newcastle to account standing up for the club when they were in a relegation
03:50 battle when he first sort of burst on the scene and he earned his captaincy on
03:54 the back of that he's since faded into the background since the takeover really
03:58 but to get get him back on the pitch leading the team out the first
04:02 Champions League game in over 20 years at St. James's Park and to put in a
04:07 performance like he did along with the rest of his team of course but and that
04:13 was a great moment for him and it was many of those and tonight Eddie Howe
04:17 even said there's so many great stories to come from tonight's game and
04:22 incredible atmosphere I don't think it's one the 50 odd thousand fans will forget
04:29 for a long long time and spoke ahead of the game the sense of occasion
04:35 surrounding it was comparable to Wembley almost the thing was with
04:40 Wembley was it was a letdown on the pitch but this the 90 minutes tonight
04:46 just took things up a level even more Eddie Howe said that in his pre-match
04:51 post-match press conference at the end and it just made it a historic night and
04:56 it quite an emotional night obviously in you're in the press box you try and be
05:02 as dispassionate as possible but when you see Dan Byrne, Sean Longstaff
05:08 shine on on the world stage if you like the European stage but it's the pinnacle
05:13 of football pinnacle of club football and these local lads are doing it at St.
05:18 James's Park and it's just incredible to see and just how far Newcastle have
05:25 come and progressed in the past couple of years since the takeover and
05:29 they've earned the place to play against the likes of PSG and now they'll be
05:35 turning some heads to top of the group after two games and in the Champions
05:39 League four goals scored just the one conceded tonight after the nil-nil draw
05:44 at AC Milan last time out so yeah just an incredible night for Newcastle
05:50 United and everyone associated with the club and this fine run of form
05:55 continues another game another win clean sheet record does come to an end shame
06:01 about that but hey like I say I just don't think it comes much better than
06:07 that for Newcastle United
