Dominic Scurr reflects on Newcastle United's 2-0 defeat at AFC Bournemouth.
Transcript
00:00 Bournemouth 2 Newcastle United 0 here at the Vitality Stadium this evening. A real off
00:06 day for Newcastle, mitigating factors to that of course, but probably the worst performance
00:12 of the season. Depleted Newcastle United squad, Eddie Howe said after the game, doesn't want
00:18 to make excuses but there are explanations why Newcastle were off it tonight. Eddie Howe
00:25 said Newcastle looked unrecognisable at times and I'd have to agree with that. I thought
00:30 Bournemouth thoroughly deserved the win. Only one team really showed up and Newcastle, even
00:35 with the injuries, the start in 11, I feel like was good enough to give a relegation
00:43 zone as they started the day. Bournemouth side who had won one game all season, give
00:48 them a good game but they didn't really from the start. Bournemouth threatened, if it wasn't
00:53 for Nick Pope, game finished 2-0, if it wasn't for the Newcastle goalkeeper I feel like it
00:58 could have been really quite embarrassing. He made a number of good saves, he was by
01:01 far Newcastle's best player. Of his debut as well for Louis Miley, thought he did alright
01:08 before being taken off. Looked composed and the game sort of passed him by here and there
01:13 but first Premier League start I thought by all accounts did ok but too many players just
01:19 off it looking tired at the moment and missing Bruno is obviously a big one as well. The
01:25 midfield just doesn't look quite right without him in the side and then compounded with that
01:30 another injury blow as Miguel Almiron goes off after half an hour with a hamstring issue.
01:36 So unsure if that's a long term problem just yet or whether he could be back after the
01:41 international break. I imagine he'll probably withdraw from the Pau Gray squad as a result
01:46 and one player who has withdrawn from the national team squad is Callum Wilson. He missed
01:50 the game today with a hamstring issue as well and Eddie Howe said he will be out for a number
01:56 of weeks so yeah it doesn't rain for Newcastle at Pau's. This injury situation we're looking
02:01 at, we'll have Bruno back for the next game but yeah 11 players out at the moment. You'll
02:07 hope a couple will be back for Chelsea after the international break which probably comes
02:11 at a good time, Newcastle can get at least a few players that bit closer.
