Llega el Honda Accord al Auto Show de Detroit 2012

00:02 - All right, so we're here at the 2012

00:09 North American International Auto Show in Detroit

00:11 at the Honda booth, and behind me is the ninth generation

00:15 Honda Accord Coupe Concept.

00:17 Now here's a fun fact.

00:19 Honda has sold over 11 million Accords in the US.

00:22 Eight million of them have been produced

00:24 out of their Marysville plant in Ohio.

00:27 This is the all new ninth generation Concept,

00:29 and what it portends for the future of Accord

00:32 is a lot of key new technology,

00:34 primarily in the powertrain department.

00:36 They have a new series of engines called Earth Dreams,

00:39 and it all starts with the 2.4 liter

00:41 direct injection four cylinder

00:43 that will be mated to a CVT transmission.

00:46 Now for those interested in the V6,

00:47 you'll have an updated single overhead cam

00:50 3.5 liter V6 engine that, for a Honda Accord first,

00:55 will mate to a six speed automatic transmission,

00:57 both automatic and manual.

01:00 Perhaps the biggest news, however, is the hybrid.

01:03 It's a new two liter Atkinson cycle four cylinder engine

01:07 paired with a two motor hybrid drive system.

01:10 It's a plug-in too, which is key,

01:12 and Honda says the car will go 10 to 15 miles

01:15 in pure EV mode, and then you can switch it

01:18 between direct drive, which is gas only,

01:21 or the hybrid system.

01:22 To recharge the battery, about 90 minutes on 240 volt.

01:26 As you can see, the Accord coupe concept looks pretty sharp,

01:29 and as with most Honda concepts,

01:31 you take away a few of the flashier bits,

01:33 the chrome surrounds around the fog lights,

01:35 the 20 inch wheels, the upswept rocker panels,

01:37 you have what should be the coupe.

01:39 How the sedan looks, we don't quite know yet.

01:42 Honda has yet to release any further details

01:43 about when that car will be released.
