00:00 In Rishi Sunak's first Tory conference speech as a leader, the Prime Minister discussed
00:06 a lot of topics ranging from the scrapping of the northern section of HS2 to the shake-up
00:10 of secondary school education. Sunak announced the scrappage of the West Midlands to Manchester
00:16 Chunk of the high-speed rail line, saying the project had come from a "false consensus
00:22 that links between big cities were all that matters". Instead, Sunak insisted the government
00:27 would use the money saved from the project and invest it in road, rail and tram projects
00:32 across the country. This news angered many, including former PM David Cameron. Next came
00:37 the discussion of a smoking ban, wherein the PM said the age at which people can buy cigarettes
00:42 and tobacco in England should rise by one a year, every year, so that eventually no
00:47 one can buy them. Finally, A-levels and T-levels will be replaced by a new qualification for
00:52 all school leavers in England. It's a long-term plan that won't affect anyone currently at
00:57 secondary school.
