01:00 Vice President Sara Duterte denies involvement in the traffic disruption caused by the closure
01:05 of a portion of Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City.
01:08 Her office says Duterte has been in Mindanao since Wednesday for World Teachers Day.
01:13 The move was triggered by a viral video showing the police stopping traffic along Commonwealth
01:17 Avenue as the Vice President was supposed to pass through the area.
01:21 This angered motorists and Filipinos online.
01:28 Duterte wrote to QCPD to probe the incident and emphasized her office didn't ask for assistance
01:33 from the police.
01:34 QCPD Director Brigadier General Rodrigo Maranan explains the traffic disruption involved a
01:39 Quezon City policeman but did not name the VIP involved.
01:43 Maranan adds the traffic operation was not in any manner related to politics.
01:49 Maranan also apologizes for any inconvenience and confusion and also apologizes to Vice
01:54 President Sara Duterte who was dragged into the controversy.
02:00 The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines says 42 commercial airports in the country
02:04 are under heightened security alert after airport officials received bomb threats.
02:10 CAP says in a statement that it received a warning from the Air Traffic Service that
02:15 aircraft from Manila bound for Puerto Princesa, Mactan, Cebu, and Davao International Airports
02:20 are "about to be set off by a bomb."
02:24 CAP adds the information is being validated.
02:28 Transport Secretary Jaime Bautista says in a statement there is no expected impact to
02:33 any scheduled flight, adding protocols are in place.
02:37 He adds patrols and canine units have been deployed to all terminals while law enforcement
02:41 agencies are coordinating closely.
02:44 CAP spokesperson Eric Apolonio says the agency decided to delay its public announcement of
02:49 the heightened alert status to avoid causing panic but says all 42 airports continue to
02:55 operate normally.
02:59 National Economic and Development Authority Secretary Arsenio Balisacan says an interest
03:04 hike could just hurt the economy even more.
03:07 This as the Philippine Central Bank is set to hike interest rates in November to control
03:12 rising inflation.
03:14 Balisacan says raising interest rates will hurt the economy, will hurt consumers, will
03:19 hurt producers, and that has also long-term effects.
03:23 He adds the hike could also impact foreign exchange rates and make the country's exports
03:27 more expensive.
03:29 He says doing so would put the economy "quite away from our peers in the region."
03:35 Inflation in September jumped to 6.1 percent, going up for the second straight month.
03:40 Here to date, average inflation stands at 6.6 percent, pushing further away from the
03:45 government's target range of 2 to 4 percent.
03:50 Forensic pathologist Dr. Raquel Fortun questions the theory that the cause of death of a 14-year-old
03:55 student in Antipolo City was a slap from his teacher.
03:59 Based on the death certificate, Francis J. Gumique died due to brain hemorrhage.
04:04 Fortun emphasizes the cause of death is unclear.
04:07 She points out the death certificate did not specify the underlying cause, which is crucial
04:12 in determining what led to the hemorrhage.
04:14 The death certificate indicates suspected presumptive pulmonary tuberculosis and child
04:19 physical abuse played significant roles in contributing to Gumique's death.
04:24 Gumique's mother says her son was slapped by his teacher on September 20.
04:29 He complained of ear pain and dizziness but continued attending school until September
04:33 26, when he was rushed to the hospital.
04:35 He fell into a coma and passed away on October 2.
04:40 A Bulacan court acquits former General Jovito Palparan and five others of the 2006 kidnapping
04:45 and illegal detention with serious physical injuries of Raymond and Reynaldo Manalo.
04:50 "From what I heard, the basis of the decision was that the witnesses were not identified
05:05 by the police.
05:06 Raymond was the one who was kidnapped."
05:11 The Manalo brothers filed the case in 2016, a decade after they were abducted at gunpoint
05:16 from their farm in Bulacan.
05:18 The military suspected them to be members of the Communist New People's Army.
05:23 In their testimonies, the brothers said they experienced torture while military personnel
05:27 interrogated them over 18 months at various military camps.
05:31 Raymond was a key witness in the 2006 kidnapping of two University of the Philippines students,
05:36 Shirlene Cadapan and Karen Empeño.
05:39 His testimony led to Palparan's first conviction in September 2018.
05:45 A film adaptation of Paolo Coelho's international bestseller The Alchemist is in the works once
05:51 again.
05:52 Entertainment site Deadline reports, "Legendary Entertainment, which produced films such as
05:56 Steve Jobs, Black Lanceman and Dune, acquires the rights to adapt the bestselling book."
06:02 The Alchemist tells the allegorical epic story of an Andalusian shepherd who goes on a quest
06:07 to the pyramids of Egypt in search of treasure.
06:10 Paolo Coelho's The Alchemist was first published in Portuguese in Brazil in 1988 and was later
06:15 translated into 53 languages.
06:19 Meantime, publisher Tidal Wave Comics publishes a comic book about the journey of pop star
06:23 Billie Eilish from a young dancer to Oscar-winning songwriter.
06:28 Tidal Wave Comics adds Billie to its Female Force series celebrating authors, business
06:33 executives, entertainers, journalists, politicians and activists.
06:37 The comic is set to be released on October 10 in digital and print formats.
06:44 Jiu-Jitsu has breathed new life into the Philippines' campaign in the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.
06:49 Dani Ramirez captures the Philippines' third gold and second in Jiu-Jitsu after ruling
06:54 the women's 57kg on Friday, October 6.
06:59 Ramirez scores a 2-0 victory over Kazakhstan's Galina Duvanova in the final to complete her
07:04 unbeaten run after winning her first three bouts.
07:08 Her triumph comes a day after fellow Jiu-Jitsu standout Meggie Ochoa emerged as the second
07:13 Filipino gold medalist in Hangzhou and after pole vaulter EJ Obiena scored the breakthrough
07:18 win on Saturday, September 30.
07:21 Meantime, Filipino boxer Yumir Marcial accepts defeat in the Asian Games after a consensuous
07:26 unanimous decision to China in the final of the men's 80kg division on Thursday, October
07:31 5.
07:33 The loss prevented Marcial from bringing home the Philippines' first gold in Asian Games
07:37 boxing since Rey Saludar reigned in the men's 52kg in 2010.
