00:00 Welcome to Wingerman Valley Vets.
00:04 Welcome to Wingerman Valley Vets.
00:07 My name's Alyssa Healy, I'm one of the directors at Wingerman Valley Vets
00:11 and have been involved heavily in the design and construction of our new building.
00:17 So we have separate dog and cat consulting rooms for fear-free reasons
00:25 because cats don't like to be in the same areas as dogs.
00:30 So we've got completely separate rooms so that the cats don't smell the dogs
00:34 and they can feel more comfortable in their consultation.
00:37 So I'll just show you into one of our cat-only consultation rooms.
00:41 We have a special cat waiting room here that's separate from the dogs
00:46 and a cat carrier storage area, so they're up off the ground.
00:52 So this is one of our cat consult rooms.
00:59 We have a folding exam table that can move away if we need to,
01:03 if we want to do something with our cats down on the floor.
01:06 We've created these to be warm and inviting and basically a safe place for cats
01:12 so that they feel like they can come out of their carriers, explore the room, feel relaxed.
01:17 We constantly diffuse feline pisiferumone in this room
01:22 so that that relaxes the cats a little bit more, and that's part of our fear-free practices.
01:28 And we find that our cat patients are a lot happier coming to the vet
01:34 when we have these strategies in place.
01:37 And now I'll take you through to one of our dog consulting rooms,
01:40 which are kept well separate from the cats.
01:43 We have four of those that we use for a variety of things like ultrasounds,
01:48 eye consultations, and general consults, of course.
01:52 They have folding exam tables as well so that for bigger dogs,
01:56 we can fold them up out of the way and get down on the floor with our patients.
02:00 And that's particularly nice when owners are visiting their animals in hospital
02:04 and want to have some time with them to get down on the soft furnishings
02:09 and spend a bit of quality time together.
02:13 So this is one of our dog consultation rooms.
02:20 These exam tables fold up and out of the way
02:23 so we can hop down on the floor with our patients and examine them there
02:27 as a lot of dogs are more comfortable being examined on the floor.
02:31 So this is our purpose-built laboratory where we have our microscopes
02:36 and an array of blood machines for doing in-house blood testing
02:41 so we don't have to rely on a lab getting results back to us.
02:46 We can have it immediately within about 10 to 15 minutes.
02:49 That's particularly useful for really critical cases like snake bites,
02:54 very sick dogs, things that we have to act on immediately.
02:58 So we can do standard biochemistry, haematology, blood gases,
03:04 and also coagulation times.
03:06 So these are our state-of-the-art hospital cat condos that we're really proud of.
03:12 They've been built to a standard that will allow us to achieve
03:17 gold-level cat-friendly accreditation, and that's based on the size,
03:23 having multiple levels, having a separate litter tray area
03:29 so the cats aren't toileting where they're eating.
03:32 There's a little porthole for them to go back and forth,
03:35 and this is somewhere they can hide when they're in hospital as well
03:38 so they feel comfortable and not anxious.
03:41 So this is our state-of-the-art surgical theatre.
03:45 It's been built to a standard that will allow us to get
03:50 hospital of excellence accreditation.
03:53 So this is where we'll be doing our large orthopaedic surgeries,
03:57 major soft tissue surgery, because it's got the big set of double lights
04:01 and visibility, a heated surgical table which keeps our patients warm,
04:06 which is really important when you're anaesthetising small animals,
04:10 and the hospital has fully piped and plumbed oxygen to both surgical rooms,
04:15 the treatment room, and also our ICU cages for critical tick patients
04:20 that require supplemental oxygen therapy.
04:23 So this is our digital x-ray room where we have a full digital x-ray set up
04:29 and a bucky table, and that links to this computer here,
04:34 so we can view our x-rays on any of the computers throughout the hospital
04:38 as well as remotely when we need to do so.
04:41 My name's Mick. I'm one of the vets here at Wingham,
04:44 and just showing you the new runs we've got for large dogs in our new hospital.
04:49 A few features that are nice. It's all air-conditioned.
04:54 We have the ability to provide oxygen to these runs for cases that are quite critical.
04:59 An example might be tick paralysis or snakebite cases.
05:05 So that's nice that they're air-conditioned, and we've also got--
05:08 we thought putting frosting on the glass lower down in the runs would be a good idea
05:12 because then dogs aren't seeing other dogs walking past all day.
05:17 That can often stress dogs. We want to give dogs the nicest experience they can here.
05:22 And we also have CCTV monitoring to a few of these runs
05:27 so that we can remotely monitor critically sick patients.
05:32 Some good examples would be dogs that we're worried if they might have a seizure
05:37 or they might be recovering from surgery.
05:41 They might have tick paralysis. They might have a severe infection.
05:44 And we can just provide a better standard of care that way
05:48 when there's not someone here watching them 24/7.
05:51 I'm Zach. I'm one of the directors here at the Wingham and Valley Vets.
05:55 We're really lucky that we've got 26 car spots to allow all our clients to come in.
06:01 And we've got the equine facilities as well.
06:03 So we've got two boxes in there as well as a foaling box.
06:08 A crush to allow us to do a lot of reproductive work with horses
06:11 as well as dentals when they come into the clinic.
06:14 And all the other large animal work that we do will perform down there.
06:19 We're hoping for it to be open by next week.
