00:00 Negotiations between SAG-AFTRA and AMPTP have officially been suspended as of Wednesday
00:05 night.
00:06 The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers declared that they have halted talks
00:10 with the union given that the gap between the parties is too great.
00:14 Negotiations between the AMPTP and SAG-AFTRA have been suspended after SAG-AFTRA presented
00:20 its most recent proposal on October 11.
00:23 After meaningful conversations, it is clear that the gap between the AMPTP and SAG-AFTRA
00:28 is too great, and conversations are no longer moving us in a productive direction.
00:33 However, SAG-AFTRA shot back at the AMPTP, telling members that the studios walked away
00:37 from talks with the union and accused them of using bullying tactics and misrepresenting
00:43 to the press by overstating the costs of the proposal.
00:46 They have done the same with AI, claiming to "protect performer consent" but continuing
00:50 to demand consent on the first day of employment for use of a performer's digital replica for
00:55 an entire cinematic universe or any franchise project.
00:59 The SAG-AFTRA message added, "The companies are using the same failed strategy they try
01:03 to inflict on the WGA, putting out misleading information in an attempt to fool our members
01:08 into abandoning our solidarity and putting pressure on our negotiators.
01:12 But just like the writers, our members are smarter than that and will not be fooled."
01:16 The development came after the fifth day of negotiations between the union and studios
01:20 and streamers since SAG-AFTRA initially went on strike on July 14.
01:24 The news strikes as a major blow to industry workers who were hoping that the actor's strike
01:28 would conclude imminently given the end of the WGA strike and having major company CEOs
01:34 sitting in on the negotiations.
