SAG-AFTRA has clarified its widely discussed Halloween costume rules for striking actors. The guild sent the following explanation: which read in part, "This was meant to help [actors and content creators] avoid promoting struck work, and it is the latest in a series of guidelines we have issued. It does not apply to anyone's kids. We are on strike for important reasons and have been for nearly 100 days. Our number one priority remains getting the studios back to the negotiating table so we can get a fair deal for our members, and finally put our industry back to work."

00:00 SAG-AFTRA has clarified its widely discussed Halloween costume rules for striking actors.
00:05 Last week, the union released a memo setting rather rigid guidelines around SAG-AFTRA members
00:10 participating in Halloween festivities, stating that the actors should not wear costumes from
00:15 struck content, i.e. movie or television characters, and rather stick to generic
00:20 costume ideas such as a ghost, zombie or spider. But late Friday, the guild sent the following
00:25 explanation, which read in part, "This was meant to help actors and content creators avoid
00:30 promoting struck work, and it is the latest in a series of guidelines we have issued.
00:35 It does not apply to anyone's kids. We are on strike for important reasons and have been for
00:40 nearly 100 days. Our number one priority remains getting the studios back to the negotiating table
00:45 so that we can get a fair deal for our members and finally put our industry back to work."
00:50 The clarification follows many in Hollywood firing back at the protocol.
00:54 After the initial guidelines were released, Ryan Reynolds wrote,
00:57 "I look forward to screaming 'scab' at my 8-year-old all night. She's not in the union,
01:01 but she needs to learn."
01:03 Former SAG-AFTRA president Melissa Gilbert slammed the rules on Instagram, writing,
01:07 "For the love of God, people are suffering mightily and this is what you have to say?
01:11 Come on. This is the kind of silly bulls--- that keeps us on strike."
01:14 Meanwhile, Mandy Moore wrote on her Instagram stories, "Is this a joke? Come on SAG-AFTRA.
01:19 This is what's important. We're asking you to negotiate in good faith on our behalf.
01:23 So many folks across every aspect of this industry have been sacrificing mightily for months.
01:28 Get back to the table and get a fair deal so everyone can get back to work."
