SAG-AFTRA video game actors continue striking against gaming studios
Videogame voice actors and motion-capture performers continued striking over failed labor contract negotiations focused around AI-related protections for workers.
Members of SAG-AFTRA picketed outside of Disney Character Voices in Burbank on Thursday, September 19, 2024. This action comes two days after Governor Gavin Newsom signed two bills aimed at protecting actors and other performers from unauthorized use of their digital likenesses.
Earlier this month, SAG-AFTRA announced over 80 video game companies have agreed to the union’s proposed AI terms.

00:00For whatever reason, these companies, including Disney, have been unwilling to agree to the
00:29same principles that we bargained for last year in the TV theatrical strike, and that's
00:34been agreed to by the major record labels, by so many other companies in the industry.
00:37And so we're out here fighting for those principles.
00:40But the trouble is, is that they want to have us go in for a day and put down everything,
01:06and then use it forever, you know, in perpetuity.
01:10And that's just absolutely unethical.
01:25We're looking for three very basic, very easy protections.
01:29We're looking for notifications that our stuff is going to be recorded and used for AI.
01:35We're looking for consent, showing that I have agency over what my digital replica can
01:41give the studios, and we're looking to be compensated for it.
01:59There are more than 80 games and 80 companies that have signed our interim agreements, and
02:15they have said, yes, these things you're proposing are reasonable, we're fine with them, you
02:20sign up to them, and they continue to reduce under those terms.
02:29It's the big ones that aren't, which is, you know, they're always trying to, I don't know,
02:51starve us so that we'll cave in.
02:54But as you know from the theatrical strike, our superpower is that we are unemployed a
03:00lot more than we are employed, so we know how to survive.
