00:09 Much like the Queen, Camilla, 74, is an animal lover particularly fond of dogs.
00:15 Today, she celebrated International Dog Day by raising awareness of the animal charities she supports.
00:22 [Music]
00:25 But, to mark the day, the Duchess also shared a relaxed picture of herself walking one of her beloved Jack Russell Terriers.
00:33 [Music]
00:36 In the adorable picture shared by Clarence House's Twitter account, Camilla is wrapped up in a warm green coat,
00:43 paired with a light green scarf, comfortable brown trousers and walking shoes.
00:48 [Music]
00:51 The Duchess of Cornwall also dons a brown hat and carries a walking stick.
00:56 Her dog, kept on a leash, happily walks in front of her.
01:00 [Music]
01:03 The picture was shared with a caption reading, "On #InternationalDogDay,
01:08 we are highlighting the tail wagging work of the Duchess's canine patronages and charities."
01:14 The decision to share this snap prompted many animal lovers to share with the royal pictures of their own puppies.
01:20 [Music]
01:23 Others simply praised the snap chosen, with a royal watcher writing,
01:28 "I love this picture and all the information about the charities that you guys posted here. Well done!"
01:33 [Music]
01:36 Another said, "Camilla is a very natural lady." And a third added, "That's a lovely photo."
01:42 [Music]
01:45 Camilla supports various animal charities but she is surely particularly fond of Battersea,
01:51 the dog and cat rescue shelter founded in 1860.
01:54 [Music]
01:58 This is because the Duchess's own beloved dogs Beth and Bluebell were adopted from this organization.
02:04 [Music]
02:07 Camilla, who became the patron of the centre in 2017,
02:11 recalled how Battersea was pivotal in saving the life of Bluebell before her adoption.
02:16 [Music]
02:19 She told the BBC, "They found Bluebell two or three weeks later wandering about in woods,
02:25 no hair on her, covered in sores, virtually dead.
02:28 [Music]
02:32 And they nursed her back to life and her hair grew again.
02:35 She's very sweet, but a tiny bit neurotic, shall we say."
02:40 [Music]
02:43 Last December, Camilla was accompanied to an engagement at Battersea by her second Jack
02:48 Russell terrier, Beth.
02:50 [Music]
02:53 On that occasion, the Duchess officially launched new kennels at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home Old
02:59 Windsor, and Beth helped her unveiling the plaque marking the visit.
03:02 [Music]
03:06 Today, Clarence House also shone the light on another animal charity,
03:11 Animal Care Trust, which aims at improving animal health and care.
03:14 [Music]
03:18 Camilla took over as patron of this organization in 2015,
03:22 when she was passed the role by the Queen.
03:24 [Music]
03:28 Camilla is also close to the Medical Detection Dogs charity,
03:32 which trains dogs to detect minute changes in an individual's odour and alert them to an
03:37 impending medical event.
03:38 [Music]
03:41 These dogs also help people manage difficult and life-threatening medical conditions.
03:46 [Music]
03:49 Over the past year, the charity also trained dogs to detect the smell of COVID-19.
03:55 [Music]
03:58 In October last year, the Duchess of Cornwall headed to Paddington Station in London to see
04:04 how these dogs fared in detecting coronavirus in a real-life environment.
04:08 [Music]
04:11 Camilla, who has been backing the work of this organization since 2014,
04:16 described the dogs as simply remarkable.
04:18 [Music]
04:22 The test was passed with flying colours by the dogs,
04:25 as they detected on six separate occasions humans who were wearing clothes with the odour of COVID-19.
