00:12 All right, here I am in Lynchburg, Virginia,
00:16 not too far from the Appomattox Courthouse
00:19 where the Civil War came to an end.
00:22 And you know, there's a place here called Texas Inn.
00:27 The locals call it the Tea Room.
00:29 And almost, almost a hundred years ago,
00:34 about 90 years ago now,
00:37 a guy who was a event planner for Ringling Brothers
00:41 and decided to buy a chili recipe
00:46 from someone in San Antonio
00:47 and began to set up here, the Texas Inn,
00:52 where they serve chili and hot dogs,
00:54 chili dogs, you name it, they've been here.
00:57 And they're considered one of the top dogs
00:59 in the Lynchburg area.
01:00 But we're here and we're gonna try it out.

02:14 - No onions, but the relish, what would you say it's for?
02:17 - All right, I'll try the relish.
02:19 - So chili and relish only?
02:20 - Yes, yeah, chili and relish only.
02:22 - And then a plain one?
02:23 - Yes.
02:24 - All right.
02:25 - All right, born at the Texas Tavern in 1935,
02:35 they serve Jesse Jones hot dogs.
02:41 Now these hot dogs have kind of a pinkish hue,
02:44 I would say.
02:45 They're steamed up, look at that,
02:50 a little bit of pink on the bun itself.
02:53 The bun is warm, the bun to dough ratio is good.
02:57 Let's see how these hot dogs actually taste.
02:59 Has a good taste, doesn't have that snap.

03:13 I think this is a lime dry double.
03:15 All right, now here is the chili dog.
03:21 It's served with a yellow relish.
03:25 This place is well known for the relish.
03:30 I'm not a relish guy, but you know, for you, for you,
03:35 for all you fans out here who follow me,
03:37 and will say, "I'm disappointed he didn't try the relish."
03:40 Well, don't be disappointed.
03:42 I'm trying the relish with the chili,
03:44 and let's see how this tastes.
03:47 It does have a bit of a unique spice.
04:05 I'm not a relish guy at all, but I'll tell you what,
04:08 it doesn't taste too bad.
04:10 It doesn't make me, I don't hate it.
04:14 And the chili's very good.
04:17 I think I'm gonna give this another double.
04:20 And then we got the fries here.
04:24 Basic crinkle cut.
04:39 I'm gonna give the fries a 7.6.
04:42 Now, they recommended that I try this fried sweet potato pie.
04:49 You know, why not?
04:53 Very sweet.
05:08 I'm gonna give this an 8.4.
05:12 All right, they say they serve 1,500 people,
05:23 15 parcels at a time.
05:25 This place is small, but you know, it's special.
05:29 And it's special for the people of Lynchburg,
05:31 and that's why it's been here nearly 90 years.
05:35 You know, this is what hot dogs all about.
05:38 Uniqueness, uniqueness.
05:39 These almost like main red snappers,
05:42 the pink southern style hot dogs, very, very nice.
05:47 And you know, that's what hot dogs about.
05:49 And that's why we love doing this.
