Maraguinot improves after criticized by coach

Nxled head coach Taka Minowa did not mince words when it comes to his first impression of Jhoana Maraguinot, calling her lazy and unprofessional.

Perceiving this, the Japanese Minowa, husband of Jaja Santiago and one of Ageo Medic’s former coaches in Japan, challenged Maraguinot to be better and the former Ateneo Blue Eagle has heeded the call.

Seldom-used in Nxled sister team Akari last Invitational Conference, Maraguinot said he uses Minowa's first impression of her as motivation to be better.

Maraguinot logged 11 points and six receptions, to help the Chameleons defeat the Gerflor Defenders, 25-18, 25-14, 25-19, as they made a winning debut in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Sunday, October 15.

00:00 I'm both here.
00:02 Joe, she's kind of awkward.
00:04 Because I love the game.
00:06 I know everyone says she's a good player before.
00:12 But for now, since I've seen her for the first time,
00:17 she's lazy.
00:19 She's not doing professional.
00:22 That's why I told her, you have a lot of career and experience.
00:27 But you're not going to show for our team.
00:31 That's why you need to talk more with players and coaching staff.
00:36 You need to share about your experience.
00:40 And now, she's trying.
00:42 She's trying to talk to everyone.
00:44 And now she's trying to get involved.
00:47 Before, she's not trying to get involved.
00:50 But in these two weeks, she's getting better.
00:55 So, it's a big up for you again.
00:57 I think it's a great motivation for me.
01:02 Because he doesn't know how to play.
01:11 So now, I think, and I don't think it's the time
01:15 that he brings up the mistakes or the past.
01:23 What he would do is, he would always try to help me
01:28 and everyone else to improve.
01:32 Not just to fit in the system.
01:37 Not just to fit in the system, but to improve as an athlete.
01:43 Not just as a player, but for the future.
