00:00 Hello, my name is Lawrence Smith and this is your Sussex World News Bulletin for Tuesday, October 17th, 2023.
00:07 Worried residents at a Sussex village are raising new concerns over major development plans for the area, which they fear will make their lives a misery.
00:14 There are proposals for a large solar farm to be built on fields to the west of Cowfold, and a huge electricity substation to the east of the village.
00:22 Angry protests are now being made by residents, who say that the village will be ruined and that they will face years of traffic chaos and pollution if the developments go ahead.
00:31 A public consultation into the solar farm proposals by a company called Low Carbon is to come to an end this week.
00:38 They are seeking approval to establish the solar farm for a period of 40 years, after which they say it would be decommissioned.
00:45 The Town of Rye welcomed the 70th National Town Crier Championships on Saturday, October 14th.
00:51 Rye Town Council eagerly took up the baton after the championships had funding withdrawn by Hastings Borough Council, who had hosted it for the previous 69 years.
00:59 Town criers from all over Britain, and one from Belgium, travelled to Rye to compete for the title of National Champion.
01:06 The event, which was hosted by Rye's Town Crier, was held in the Gun Gardens, Rye, and attracted a very large and appreciative crowd, some of whom had travelled hundreds of miles to watch.
01:16 A school in mid-Sussex has opened a new state-of-the-art building.
01:19 Hancross Park School officially opened the Oaton Building this month, which houses three new English classrooms and a dedicated immersive classroom.
01:27 The school said the building is warmed by air source heat and has integrated solar panelling and air conditioning.
01:33 The school said that the immersive classroom gives students a real-life learning environment, with floor-to-ceiling interactive projections.
01:40 You can read all of these stories and more at www.sussexexpress.co.uk.
