SPRINGLOCK FAILURE Scene in Five Nights at Freddy's Movie
Transcript
00:00 "I always come back."
00:04 Did the Five Nights at Freddy's movie just promise us a sequel?
00:08 Well, in the famous words of William Afton, "He always comes back."
00:12 If there was one major plot point that the FNAF movie brilliantly executed to satisfy
00:16 fans' expectations, it was the unveiling of William Afton's iconic spring-lock scene.
00:21 As the film revealed, Yellow Rabbit is none other than William Afton, the owner of what
00:25 once was Freddy Fazbear's Pizza.
00:27 However, there's a sinister layer to his persona.
00:30 During the 1980s, he exploited the restaurant as a facade to attract and murder children,
00:34 later concealing their bodies within the animatronic suits which their souls would subsequently
00:39 inhabit.
00:40 To shield himself, he orchestrated a career in law enforcement for his daughter, Vanessa,
00:44 who aided him by disregarding the eerie occurrences at Freddy's.
00:47 Given her patrol duties in that vicinity, she was well-placed to monitor the events
00:51 and accrue a wealth of knowledge regarding the premises and its creepy occupants.
00:54 Although William Afton's presence isn't significantly felt throughout the movie until the climactic
00:59 finale, the anticipation was well-rewarded as Matthew Lillard delivered an outstanding
01:03 performance in the scene.
01:05 The moment where he removes his costume head was nothing short of a mic drop moment and
01:08 awesome to see on the big screen.
01:10 It's as if Matthew Lillard was like, "If I'm meeting my fate in the first film and bound
01:14 to this rabbit suit eternally, I'm seizing this moment."
01:17 And a boy sees that he did.
01:19 The lead-up to the iconic spring-lock failure scene saw Vanessa unveil her dark knowledge
01:23 of the eerie history shadowing the pizzeria and unveils the shocking truth of her lineage.
01:28 She's William Afton's daughter.
01:30 She further enlightens Mike about the sinister desire of the Five Spirits for Abby, Afton's
01:34 manipulation over them.
01:35 His guise as the Yellow Rabbit during his control of the pizzeria, his actual identity,
01:39 and his heinous act of kidnapping the Five Young Souls, murdering them, and concealing
01:43 them within the animatronic suits where no one would think to search.
01:47 During Vanessa dropping bombshells on Mike, a variant of Freddy, known as Golden Freddy
01:50 who is one of the most mysterious characters in the game series, emerges to get Abby from
01:55 her home, tragically ending Aunt Jane's life during the event.
01:58 Golden Freddy then takes Abby to the pizzeria where the other animatronics under Afton's
02:02 control begin to menace her, with Chica taking it one step further and trying to give her
02:06 the same fate as the ghost children by stuffing her in an animatronic suit.
02:10 The now enlightened Mike rushes back to the pizzeria, armed with taser weapons just as
02:13 the Yellow Rabbit, or Spring Bonnie, makes his grand entrance.
02:17 A confrontation ensues between Mike and the animatronics, during which Afton shockingly
02:21 discloses his heinous act of abducting and killing Mike's number sibling, Garrett.
02:25 Vanessa then arrives and steps into the chaos to aid Mike and Abby, where she is stabbed
02:29 by her own father before Abby unfolds the grim reality of Afton's sinister deeds to
02:34 his animatronic victims through a drawing.
02:36 Upon learning the harsh truth, the animatronics rally against Afton and overpower him.
02:41 Mr. Cupcake launches at Afton, biting down into him, which triggers the infamous Springlock
02:46 scene.
02:47 The scene diverges from the game narrative, where the Springlock malfunction is induced
02:50 by water seeping onto the suit.
02:53 It holds its own charm in the film narrative.
02:55 As Afton nears his end, he delivers the line fans have longed to hear from the antagonist,
02:59 proclaiming they always come back before redonning his suit's head, subtly teasing the potential
03:04 return of Lillard's William Afton in an up-humming sepulchre, before Freddy, Chica, Bonnie, and
03:09 Foxy lock him away.
03:10 As the film took a different approach for Afton's fate, it will be interesting to see
03:14 where potential sequels take his character from here, but we're sure we'll be theorizing
03:18 and speculating for months and even years to come.
03:21 Yet, we're keen to hear your insights.
03:23 What direction do you envision the FNAF film universe steering Afton's narrative towards?
03:27 While it might appear that he's met his demise, Afton's own words came with a terrifying promise
03:31 - he always comes back.
03:33 Let us know your thoughts on the unfolding lore of this cinematic universe and the possibilities
03:37 awaiting the chapters to come.
