00:00 Hello, Alex Miller and Joe Cran stood in front of the Kop here at Hillsborough. We have just
00:04 watched Sheffield Wednesday with a football match.
00:06 Yeah, it's nice isn't it?
00:07 It's a lovely feeling. 2-0 against Brotherham United, had the spice of a South Yorkshire
00:14 clash, we won't call it a derby if people get cross at that sort of thing, but particularly
00:19 in the first half but also in the second half, Wednesday were right at it and looked dangerous.
00:24 Yeah, I think it was, the first half was more actively dangerous and they were really at
00:29 it from minute one, second half it was more, they just looked really organised and they
00:34 were sort of picking and choosing their chances rather than going gunko. It was two different
00:40 types of ways of playing that were both very successful, I mean they kept Brotherham at
00:44 arm's length almost the whole way through the second half as well. It just felt like
00:48 a very professional performance from Wednesday and one that we haven't seen for quite a while.
00:54 Two goals as well, two goals for Michael Smith back in the starting line-up. I mean, I think
00:58 you've written it in your piece haven't you? In terms of narratives, it's up there right
01:02 in front of the Rotherham fans. He's sort of been at pains to say he's got nothing against
01:09 Rotherham fans in any stretch of the imagination, he enjoyed his time there. It would appear
01:12 that they have something against him. Yeah, and let's just say that the Wednesday fans
01:16 rather enjoyed the fact that Smudgy got those goals. And the Man Under Match at the end
01:20 of it as well. A larger than usual cheer when the Man Under Match got announced. But look,
01:25 I'm pleased for him as well. He worked so incredibly hard today. Just chatting to him
01:29 now he said that he's been getting a bit of stick for not finishing the first chance before
01:32 the goal, he said he shanked it. So, yeah, I think to get two goals today of all games
01:39 for him will have felt nice. Do you know what, it's always funny with booing and stuff like
01:43 that, I always think it helps. The Wednesday fans have done it enough and have been stung
01:48 by it. You see it often when it kind of cheeses them up a little bit more. Yeah, I mean we
01:53 did talk about Smudgy there but I thought Wednesday were great to a man today. Don't
01:57 think he was a bad player on the pitch. Everyone did their jobs well. It sounds like Danny
02:01 Reuel is very meticulous about each player's role and that they stick to that role. And
02:06 it seems to be working so far because this is the first win but it's not the first good
02:09 performance is it? No, it's certainly not. All the numbers were sort of heading in the
02:14 right direction as we've detailed in the starting line-up the last few days. If not necessarily
02:19 the results, but it's the results that are king and they've got that today. I want to
02:22 speak about a couple of players, as you said, everyone was more or less at it today. Dominic
02:27 Olfer, he's had his moments this season but certainly I think we've seen some really strong
02:33 defensive performances. I think today with everything that Danny's spoken about, taking
02:38 the ball to the pitch and all the rest of it, he was given licence and he took full
02:41 advantage of it. He certainly did. Just bombing about, wasn't he? It's a really lovely sight
02:47 seeing him in full flight. There was one defensively, right by where we are now, where he sort of
02:52 belted across the pitch from right back to almost left back to put in a sliding tackle.
02:57 And then for the second goal as well, I think he gets the assist for that. It starts with
03:02 him and then he just sets off and just bombs straight through. It's funny with that one,
03:06 obviously it was Massab, wasn't he, taking it in. And I'm looking at it and I'm like,
03:12 'who's that?' I was looking down my list, you know, what's Dominic Olfer doing up there?
03:15 I can't wait to see that. But it's just part of his game and it's part of the game that
03:18 people love to see. I mentioned there, Anthony Massaba, we've seen glimpses of what he can
03:25 do. He's raw, he's very raw, but that makes him dangerous as well. Yeah, I thought he
03:30 was really, really dangerous today. There was a couple of loose touches and a couple
03:34 of decisions where he probably made the wrong one but the overall performance overshadows
03:40 any negatives that might have been from his play. I thought he was just electric today,
03:44 you know, he's the sort of player that's getting people on their feet. When he gets the ball,
03:48 people are expecting him to do something. He's a little bit wild, isn't he, in terms
03:55 of the way that he plays. No one really knows what he's going to do with it, whether he's
03:58 going to try and cut it back, whether he's going to try and take his man. But I thought
04:02 him and Josh Windass today were really good. They put some really dangerous balls into
04:07 the box and that's what people want to see. They want to see the ball in dangerous positions
04:12 and if Wednesday had been fighting him up at half-time, I don't think he would have
04:16 fought it out. It's worth saying that on Windass, I think he's been excellent since Danny's
04:19 come in. He just feels like he's that one goal away. There were a couple of times where
04:23 he went close today from really getting things going. It felt like a bit of a restart today,
04:30 we don't want to get too ahead of ourselves. We've got to say that... We've done this before.
04:35 Rotherham were poor. Very poor. They looked sluggish and just frail, I think, in just
04:40 about every department. Obviously, Wednesday took advantage. It was the atmosphere here
04:45 that struck a chord with me in terms of it's been a fairly miserable place to come and
04:52 watch football. Shout out to the PA and the guy who controls the music today. But certainly
04:59 at full-time, even before, it felt like this is a fan base ready to take on and put some
05:05 faith in a new start. Yeah, and chatting to Danny Rill afterwards, he's made up an
05:10 enthusiasm. Obviously, seeing his family was here for the first time today, well, obviously
05:17 here for the first time, definitely. But he just looked genuinely chuffed. He's been an
05:22 assistant, he's been the backbencher for so long, so to hear a stadium of this size all
05:26 chanting his name, he seems to have bought into what the fans want, they seem to have
05:33 bought into what he's trying to do. I think as long as that's the case, you can make progress.
05:40 With Danny, the way that he speaks about this project is very glowing and I think that goes
05:47 a long way. It certainly does. So, a much brighter day, we're leaving Hillsborough with
05:51 smiles on our faces for the first time. And it's live as well for a change. Yeah, very
05:54 long time, long live early kick-offs. But yeah, keep it locked as ever to thestar.co.uk.
05:59 We'll have all the fallout from Sheffield Wednesday's first win of the campaign and
06:04 everything to follow at thestar.co.uk.
