Sheffield Wednesday beaten by Leicester City - but positives to take for the Owls
Transcript
00:00 Good evening, Alex Miller and Joe Crown here from the Sheffield start reporting from the technical area.
00:06 Actually at the King Power Stadium, we keep getting closer and closer to the pitch every week.
00:10 It's really lovely here, isn't it?
00:12 It really is, the facilities and all the rest of it.
00:14 But we're not going to get too doe-eyed about Leicester City.
00:16 We're going to talk about the game tonight.
00:18 Sheffield Wednesday lost 2-0.
00:20 A game of two halves in terms of performance at the same time.
00:24 I was going to say Leicester weren't really threatened, but Wednesday did have chances, didn't they?
00:30 Yes, even in the first half, they had a couple of half chances.
00:33 They were a lot fewer and further between in the first half because Leicester bossed the entire first half.
00:41 Wednesday were better second half.
00:43 We'll never know how much of that was down to when it was changed and how much of that was Leicester taking a foot off the pedal a little bit.
00:51 But yes, a little bit more of what Leicester do have.
00:56 Wednesday might have got back into it because they are very, very good, aren't they?
01:00 Yes, you could see the gulf between the two teams.
01:06 As we say, Wednesday didn't disgrace themselves by any stretch.
01:09 Let's talk about the first goal.
01:10 Obviously, in the first three minutes coming here, you wanted it to be 0-0 for as long as possible.
01:15 It certainly didn't happen and a regrettable way to concede as well.
01:20 Yes, it's one of those in these games, you want to keep it tight because Leicester are so good and because they have so many threats,
01:27 you want to keep it tight and make them work for goals.
01:30 Unfortunately, with the way Wednesday conceded the first, they didn't have to work for it at all.
01:34 A good closing down from them, but James Beale and Will Valk got caught in possession right in front of Wednesday's goal.
01:42 That's how we ended up tapping it into an empty net.
01:46 I think credit to them for not collapsing because we have seen that in recent weeks where Wednesday have conceded and fallen to the wayside after that.
01:54 They did rally a little bit.
01:56 But yes, Leicester don't need help scoring goals.
02:01 So, yes, when you're in Wednesday's position, it's not ideal to hand them one in the first four minutes of the game.
02:07 We don't want to dwell on that goal too much, but it was interesting listening to Danny Rowles,
02:12 his point of view on that. He pointed to the game against Birmingham and suggested that two goals started from the back.
02:19 It was almost a message of taking the rough with the smooth.
02:22 Yes, well he said it before hasn't he, that with the way they want to play, you're going to make mistakes and those mistakes are going to lead to goals
02:30 because that's the nature of it. But it's almost risk versus reward and Danny obviously feels that the reward is big enough to keep doing it.
02:38 It almost felt like a free hit. It's something that Danny Rowles didn't really subscribe to, but I think the feeling coming away from here,
02:45 certainly judging by the reaction on Twisted and all the rest of it with an improved second half display,
02:51 that it's not going to take too much of a mental toll.
02:55 The name's a strong side. There's a physical toll maybe to be looked at there and changes were made in the second half,
03:02 but everything points towards Millwall now on Saturday and another away game and one that Wednesday will probably look on a bit more favourably in terms of the potential of getting a result.
03:11 Yes, and I think you look at the next four games in general and they obviously want to win as many games as they can,
03:18 but you look at the next four games coming up and maybe not overly dramatic to say that the points total that Wednesday have got at the end of those four games could well
03:31 be a decider in how the rest of the season goes.
03:34 It certainly will. Right, all the fallout from this. We'll have the press conference ahead of that Millwall trip on Thursday between now and then.
03:40 Keep it locked, as ever, to thestart.co.uk.
