Transcript
00:00 the- well good morning or good
00:20 afternoon wherever you might be
00:21 watching from and welcome to
00:22 Seattle the Cleveland Browns
00:23 are on the road looking for a
00:25 third consecutive win. They're
00:26 on the road to take on the
00:28 Panthers. And it's been a long
00:31 time since Cleveland has come
00:32 up to the Pacific Northwest.
00:34 And come home with a smile on
00:35 its face maybe today. Will be a
00:37 good day I'm Brendan Gulick
00:38 along with Anthony Maglan
00:40 welcome to our coverage on
00:41 Browns digest. And Anthony this
00:44 is- an interesting matchup
00:45 because you've got a couple of
00:47 different. Four and two teams
00:48 that certainly haven't played
00:49 perfect football this year. But
00:51 have had a lot of success and
00:53 in some different ways. And I
00:55 think they're both teams trying
00:56 to. Get a win over a better.
00:59 Truly one of the best teams in
01:00 the NFL and maybe a win over. A
01:02 quality opponent like that
01:03 would. Further that case. Yeah
01:05 it almost feels like these are
01:06 two very very similar teams and
01:08 how they attack each of their
01:10 games how they played so far
01:11 and really what they- what they
01:13 do well both these defenses
01:15 have been playing very very
01:15 good football- and both these
01:17 offenses go through the run the
01:19 right game you're gonna see-
01:20 this may be S. as for last week
01:22 that a game that lasted four
01:24 and a half hours it felt like.
01:25 It felt like a little bit
01:27 quicker- because there's gonna
01:28 be- a lot of runs you're gonna
01:30 see. Kenneth Walker the third
01:32 for the- for the Seattle Seahawks
01:34 get a lot of action. And
01:35 whoever may be running running
01:37 for the Cleveland Browns
01:38 whether it is Jerome Ford if
01:39 he's- able to come back from
01:40 that injury from last week- or
01:42 if it's a combination of Pierre
01:43 strong and in cream hot. Those
01:45 guys are gonna get a lot of
01:46 action and almost feels
01:47 running that. The winner of the
01:49 line of scrimmage today- is
01:50 gonna have an advantage- here
01:52 this afternoon to- to come away
01:54 with a win. And it's gonna be a
01:56 critical win- for either side
01:58 wherever this what what however
01:59 this one shakes out. Yeah I
02:01 love both defensive lines I
02:03 think- whichever defensive line
02:06 makes a bigger impact today. In
02:08 my opinion is gonna have- a
02:09 really strong case. As far as
02:11 trying to win the game overall-
02:14 you look you brought up Jerome
02:15 Ford's name and that's kind of
02:16 the news of the of the last.
02:18 Twelve to fifteen hours here-
02:20 ESPN's Adam Scheper the force
02:22 to report on it but the Browns
02:23 are still in the game. Still
02:25 questionable the status
02:26 officially for Jerome Ford. But
02:28 that high ankle sprain seems to
02:30 be better than- than maybe what
02:32 the Browns had expected would
02:33 be at this point. Green I'm
02:35 sorry not green Jerome
02:37 practiced on Friday. And when
02:39 we had a chance to watch
02:40 practice basically where we're
02:42 allowed to stand is media. The
02:43 running back to some individual
02:45 drills literally. Feet in front
02:47 of us. And had a really good
02:49 chance to see him go through
02:50 some different ladder drills.
02:52 And I'm not saying that it was
02:54 a big impact it wasn't you know
02:56 big team stuff that cetera but
02:57 you can. You could get a feel
02:59 for whether or not a guy who's
03:00 got a bad ankle or a good ankle
03:01 can go through some of these
03:02 drills. And I thought Jerome
03:04 Brooks looked pretty light on
03:05 his feet- really explosive. You
03:08 know the ankle wasn't. Taped up
03:10 like crazy it seems as though
03:11 he is healing well so that's my
03:14 own personal take on it. The
03:16 Browns are obviously still
03:18 listening in as questionable
03:19 they want to see how he warms
03:20 up today but- I get the
03:22 message for Cleveland. If you
03:24 look at this Browns rushing
03:25 attack Anthony obviously the
03:26 first two weeks were terrific.
03:28 Weeks three and four not good
03:30 had a bye week a chance to
03:32 address some of that. Obviously
03:33 been dealing with some health
03:34 concerns. As a as a running
03:37 back room in general but the
03:38 last two weeks they've run the
03:39 ball pretty well and I know
03:40 that's definitely part of the
03:41 game plan today with Peter
03:42 Walker starting again. No no
03:44 question it has to be right you
03:46 know it's- it's you rarely do
03:49 you see teams have success when
03:50 they lose they're starting
03:52 quarterback or they're
03:53 starting quarterback. But when
03:54 you lose both of them you never
03:55 see teams have success so it's
03:57 really a testament to what this
03:58 team's been able to do- over
04:00 the past couple weeks without
04:01 Nick Chubb without the Sean
04:02 Watson because you know. As a
04:04 defensive coordinator
04:06 potentially when you're thinking
04:07 hey we can just focus on the
04:08 run game. Makes it really
04:09 really challenging- when you
04:10 have a quarterback like PJ
04:11 Walker who has struggled- you
04:13 know to be frank the past couple
04:14 weeks but the Browns have been
04:16 able. To grind out wins
04:17 obviously thanks to thanks in
04:19 large part to my own Garrett in
04:20 the past couple weeks- and
04:22 thanks to the Browns for
04:23 playing a really good defense-
04:24 but you know regardless of the
04:26 you know regardless of all of
04:27 that you know the foreign to
04:28 and they have a good
04:29 opportunity today- you know as
04:31 three and a half point dogs to
04:32 to steal one. I don't frankly
04:34 go into Seattle and steal. What
04:36 could be a huge win. And to do
04:37 that they're gonna have to
04:38 whoever's in the backfield
04:39 gonna have to have a really
04:40 good day. It's interesting the
04:42 perspective on the Browns right
04:44 now because it's sort of
04:45 depends on how you choose to
04:47 look at it. Your thoughts and
04:48 the defense has played
04:50 terrific it's one of the best
04:51 defense starts through six
04:53 games or seven weeks depending
04:54 on what I look at it. In
04:56 franchise history. And you know
04:59 they have absolutely lived up
05:01 to the hype on that side of the
05:02 ball yeah not a great game last
05:04 week in several metrics for
05:06 sure but they did force a bunch
05:08 of turnovers last week most of
05:10 the season- and so you know
05:12 that there is reason to have
05:13 some faith. You know continued
05:14 in that group for sure. On the
05:16 offensive side obviously a ton
05:18 of question marks around to
05:19 Sean Watson's health and when
05:20 he will return. In the
05:22 meantime PJ Walker who is. On
05:24 the practice squad at the
05:25 outset. Elevated onto the active
05:27 roster the last couple of weeks
05:29 and he's been needed. Heavily
05:31 and he's gone out and he's
05:32 beaten San Francisco forty
05:34 niners. And you know yes maybe
05:36 there were a couple of calls
05:37 that went the Browns way last
05:39 week but- PJ help guide a game
05:41 winning drive down the field
05:42 again so. I know there's
05:44 confidence in this locker room
05:45 in Walker going out and- being
05:47 a pro when going out and doing
05:48 his job. Takes more than one
05:49 guy for sure. But it's been
05:52 interesting to absorb. From
05:55 fans some of the reaction or
05:58 the feeling around this team
05:59 because there's some.
06:02 Disappointment with being four
06:04 into and I think people are
06:05 just looking for a reason to
06:06 complain. The reality is if
06:08 this is the- this is tied for
06:09 the best start. Since the team
06:11 came back in ninety nine with
06:13 the twenty twenty and with
06:14 two thousand one team so.
06:17 Enjoy being four into and
06:18 recognize there's a lot of
06:19 really good pieces here. Yeah I
06:21 think it goes. To the also to
06:23 the point of what's going on in
06:24 the AFC north like four and two.
06:26 Is the best start in you know
06:27 our recent franchise history
06:29 and like think of the years
06:30 past you know I think back to a
06:31 couple years ago. Brown start
06:32 four one and like you're
06:34 getting off rolling there are
06:35 top of the AFC north
06:36 everything's- everything's
06:37 looking good. But with the way
06:39 the north is really shaped
06:40 shaped out and how it's
06:41 starting to look with
06:41 Baltimore playing really good
06:43 football and- Pittsburgh coming
06:44 up each and every week with
06:45 different ways to steal and
06:47 find wins and- you know the
06:48 Bengals. Potentially at three
06:50 and three in the cellar you
06:52 know a lot of people are
06:52 saying that they have the best
06:53 opportunity to make a run and
06:55 make a deep run. You know so
06:57 it's like we're four into. And
06:58 you look back about you look
06:59 back like holy cow that we
07:01 should be a first place team-
07:03 but we're not and the and
07:04 they're still a little bit of
07:05 mountain to climb. With that
07:06 said. The playoff started
07:08 today or tomorrow the Browns
07:09 are in it and the Browns are
07:11 still going to be a really
07:13 tough team to- to beat and as
07:14 we kind of close the book on
07:15 October. You know you start
07:17 seeing some of these offenses
07:19 and some of these defenses
07:20 start to fall apart right
07:21 you're get seven weeks in.
07:22 The weather starts to change
07:24 and that's when you talk
07:25 about offenses and defenses
07:27 being able to travel. Well
07:28 what the Browns are doing is.
07:30 Football that travels and
07:31 football that can go into bad
07:33 weather and can go across the
07:34 country. And it can and it
07:35 can grind out wins- you know
07:37 so I'm excited to see it I'm
07:38 excited for PJ Walker today.
07:40 Because like for the first
07:42 time it feels like. You know
07:44 they announced it on on Monday
07:45 that he was going to be the
07:46 starter. You know and it
07:47 hasn't been a week long thing
07:48 of like is it going to be PJ
07:50 they're going to be the shot.
07:51 And like this is his third
07:52 start. So I'm excited to see
07:54 like the steps that he's able
07:55 to take- he's done enough to
07:56 this point to get wins. But
07:58 now that he's had a full week
07:59 of preparation for week of
08:00 knowing it's me. I'm starting
08:02 I'm playing and I have to play
08:03 well. Because I just do what
08:05 he's he puts out on the field
08:06 this afternoon. Totally agree
08:08 there there really hasn't been
08:09 that distraction this week.
08:11 Which is awesome because I
08:12 think it's helped. You know
08:14 that the team is certainly
08:15 been focused but- it's allowed
08:17 PJ Walker to prepare knowing
08:19 what's coming not. Hey I think
08:21 I have to be ready because you
08:22 never know what can happen.
08:24 And to your point. You know
08:26 the Browns are definitely
08:26 playing the kind of football
08:27 that travels if you run the
08:29 ball well. Typically that
08:31 travels defense effort. Always
08:33 travels you know sometimes it
08:34 might be difficult to get your
08:36 aerial attack. You know
08:38 physical attack going when
08:39 you're on the road- but you can
08:42 always play tough physical.
08:44 Downhill aggressive football.
08:46 On the road and that's that's
08:47 kind of been the Browns. You
08:48 know recipe for success here in
08:50 two thousand twenty three.
08:52 Couple notes that I think are
08:53 maybe the stats of the day or
08:55 notes of the day. The Browns
08:57 are thirteen and two in their
08:58 last fifteen games when they
09:00 don't. Turn it over. So in an
09:02 environment like this. It's
09:04 going to be really really loud.
09:06 If you can take care of the
09:07 football you're gonna give
09:08 yourself a really good chance.
09:09 And on top of that they are
09:10 sixteen five since two thousand
09:13 twenty. When scoring at least
09:14 twenty five points in a game.
09:16 I think twenty five points is
09:18 certainly attainable I don't
09:19 know that I think the Browns
09:20 are gonna. Offensively do what
09:21 they did last week- in
09:23 Indianapolis but- twenty five
09:24 point certainly seems attainable
09:26 for me here on the road today.
09:27 Yeah and then to the first
09:29 point. About the turnovers it's
09:32 amazing that the Browns if you
09:33 just look at the turnover
09:34 battle there one in five this
09:35 year. Just in not in not
09:37 winning turnover better. When
09:38 you don't win the turnover
09:39 battle it makes it
09:40 exponentially harder to win
09:42 football games if they can just
09:43 go in there today play just a
09:45 clean game like no
09:46 interceptions no fumbles no
09:48 turnovers. You're gonna be in
09:49 it because even think about
09:50 where you look where you're at.
09:52 This a lot of stadium in the
09:53 NFL. And if you start turning
09:54 the ball over it's gonna get
09:55 that crowd a little bit of gas
09:57 and it's gonna start jet
09:58 juicing them up and it's gonna
09:59 be loud and rockin' and- you
10:00 know just don't turn the ball
10:01 over play clean game. Play a
10:03 boring game that's totally
10:04 fine. Just come out with more
10:06 points in Seattle here about
10:07 seven o'clock eastern time.
10:09 Boring is a great way to think
10:11 about it I know like it's not
10:12 fun but- go play boring
10:15 football sometimes and that can
10:16 be really really effective. Run
10:18 the ball be effective. Don't
10:21 you don't miss tackles just
10:23 play tough physical. Football
10:25 and I think Cleveland is geared
10:27 up for a game like this. This
10:29 is an incredibly cool
10:30 environment that many of the
10:31 Browns. Have not been in before
10:34 some have been. Cleveland
10:37 obviously had come to Seattle
10:38 with much regularity this is
10:40 not a- a match up that you see.
10:42 You know the grand scheme of
10:43 things made all that often in
10:45 fact the last time the Browns
10:46 beat the Seahawks. Was twelve
10:48 years ago in two thousand
10:49 eleven but they've only lost
10:51 two games. In that eleven years
10:54 since then. And you know
10:57 Cleveland's kind of embracing
10:57 right now the idea of playing
10:59 on the road this is their-
11:00 fifth. I should say the second
11:02 of five road games in a seven
11:05 games stretch. And I think
11:06 they're looking forward to
11:07 seeing what kind of football
11:08 they can play. On an absolutely.
11:11 Perfect fall day here in
11:13 Seattle I'm so perfect because
11:15 it's good football weather
11:16 it's cold right now. It should
11:18 get up to maybe fifty degrees
11:20 in the afternoon. It's kind of
11:22 hard to tell what the way were
11:23 set up there is not even. A
11:25 lick of a cloud in the sky.
11:27 Driving from the hotel to the
11:29 stadium this morning. As the
11:30 sun was rising and the
11:31 mountains in the distance you
11:33 could see the mountains were
11:34 illuminated but everything else
11:35 is still in the shadows it was
11:37 the most. Beautiful autumn
11:39 morning here in the Pacific
11:40 Northwest that you can think of
11:41 and you look at the forecast
11:43 coming up starting on like
11:44 Tuesday this week. This is like
11:45 the last good weather that
11:46 Seattle's gonna have probably.
11:48 Forever so the Browns got here
11:50 at the right time. Come play
11:52 complete football game have
11:53 some fun. I love it I love it
11:55 yeah you as you describe that I
11:56 could be. Could be more jealous
11:58 we got a lot of good weather
11:59 and rain and wind here- including
12:01 so you're not missing much not
12:03 missing much back home but- I'm
12:04 jealous of you out there looks
12:05 like a gorgeous day in a
12:06 beautiful day. To play some
12:08 football and you know bread at
12:09 the move to five and two.
12:10 Five and two today. And take
12:12 another step in the AFC north.
12:14 See the Browns can get it done
12:15 lots of story lines to follow
12:17 with. B. J. Walker with Gino
12:19 Smith and the offense that-
12:21 Seattle bring up on the field
12:22 including some really talented
12:23 receivers. It sounds like DK
12:25 Mackey is going to be a big
12:26 player in the AFC north. I
12:28 think it's going to be a
12:29 phenomenal team. It sounds like
12:31 DK Mackey after the try to
12:32 play. Jackson Smith and J.
12:34 but you know if you're if
12:35 you're watching your house
12:36 state fan you're going to see
12:37 one of the all time great
12:38 Buckeye receivers. Playing in
12:40 the slot today tied locket.
12:41 Obviously Kenneth Walker is a
12:43 really talented running back
12:44 this is a good Seattle Seahawks
12:45 offense. In addition to the
12:47 fact that Bobby Wagner's been
12:48 playing football for a million
12:49 years defensively. They got
12:51 some really good players.
12:52 Defensive front we got you
12:54 covered one. Wire all day here
12:55 in Seattle. It's over on
12:57 the- website. If you're not
12:58 subscribed to this YouTube
13:00 channel. We certainly would
13:01 appreciate that as we bring it.
13:02 Coverage like this. Just about
13:04 every single day. Anthony
13:05 Meglin I'm Brendan. Like have a
13:07 great day. Enjoy the Cleveland
13:09 Browns and Seattle Seahawks.
