00:05 >> Miles, how disappointing is this result considering how well you guys
00:10 played from the first quarter all the way to that final drive?
00:14 >> It's frustrating, but we needed one more stop.
00:18 We gotta make good plays, so we get the most.
00:21 And when you're out there,
00:24 you gotta make the most out of your opportunities.
00:28 We didn't start off fast, we got down to the deficit we found out of it, but
00:32 we gotta fight to hold six minutes.
00:34 >> Miles, what changed after those first two drives, and
00:38 then what went wrong on that last drive?
00:40 >> I just settled in, we got a feel for what they wanted to do.
00:44 It's always a little bit different from what you all confirmed,
00:48 that people are gonna scheme you out specifically.
00:50 And they had an answer for what we had initially, but
00:54 then we started to get knocked feet underneath us.
00:57 We were lost with some other calls that we had in the docket.
01:01 So those things are working for us, but that last one,
01:05 then we just kinda got out of sorts.
01:07 And we didn't execute like we should have.
01:12 >> What was the mindset after they hit you with that big play on that final drive to
01:16 get deep in the field over there?
01:18 What was the mindset from that point on,
01:21 or were you hoping to try to accomplish?
01:25 >> I mean, I was trying to make a play.
01:27 Whether it's me or one of the guys, or I can set up one of the guys, or
01:31 anything, just one of the guys make a play.
01:34 I'm always looking for it myself, I can get it, but
01:38 they have the answer for us as well.
01:41 >> [INAUDIBLE]
01:45 >> Yeah?
01:45 >> Can you talk about the way that you guys,
01:48 it seems like you really have taken it upon yourselves to turn a ball off and
01:52 sometimes you just put the glass on, the ball's hard to make.
01:56 But I mean, you guys really have put the team on your back over the last few weeks
02:01 and really tried to have Deshaun out to support PJ and do whatever you possibly can.
02:07 >> Yeah, I mean, it's a challenge.
02:10 We look forward to making those plays, especially when they've got the momentum.
02:14 We wanna be able to shut that down and take the ball away ourselves.
02:18 We'll be able to swing it in our favor, silence that crowd, and
02:22 bring the energy back to our sideline.
02:24 We did that for three quarters, but that'll be over the last two minutes.
02:29 >> Miles, you're starting to create turnovers as a defense.
02:32 I know that was something, the first three or four games was a struggle, but
02:36 what is it you guys are doing differently the last two or
02:39 three games that you're able to kind of stack up these takeaways?
02:45 >> Playing the same way, I mean, takeaways will come.
02:48 I'm playing the same technique that we did the first three games.
02:53 The first three or four games, we were in position.
02:55 We just weren't finishing at the last moment.
03:01 We had our hands on a couple of would-be interceptions,
03:05 a couple of plays that were almost strip sacks, even a couple of this game.
03:09 And we just gotta be able to finish,
03:12 gotta be able to close it out from those plays to the end of the game.
03:18 We have to be closer.
03:20 >> What did they do to try to neutralize you as much as they could?
03:22 >> They play action a lot, trying to make us respect the run.
03:29 They had some success with the run.
03:30 So as long as they're able to show us that they're capable on the ground,
03:36 we have to honor it.
03:38 And as well as chipping, a little misdirection,
03:43 boot to the other side of the field.
03:47 No, guard slide, center slide, poor man slide, stuff like that.
03:52 So it's a lot, but nothing that we're not practicing or
03:57 not trying to account for, it's just a matter of when we see it,
04:00 we have to be ready for it.
04:01 And sometimes we weren't, and I felt like we got more to fill the second half.
04:06 And we were rushing great individually, but I feel like we still have some,
04:11 a little bit to work on, no rushing as a unit,
04:14 cuz they still have a lot of potential left in us.
04:18 >> How difficult is it not to feel like this was a missed opportunity,
04:21 considering how well the guys played up until that last round?
04:26 >> It definitely was a missed opportunity.
04:28 Five and two times a lot better than four and three, and then when you're up.
04:32 Even though the offense didn't get to make the play and close it out.
04:37 That's an opportunity for us to close it out.
04:39 We're just excited to get back on the field and make the play ourselves.
04:42 So we wanna be known to make those stops and make those plays.
04:47 And that's an opportunity for us, and we didn't capitalize.
04:50 And then there'll be more, and I trust the guys and
04:55 our ability to make those plays and myself to make those plays.
04:59 >> Did you feel like that third down sack might have been the play that could
05:03 have sealed it?
05:04 >> Thought so.
05:05 I mean, the ball came out as well.
05:07 Thinking that no, it's gonna roll away.
05:08 But unfortunately, it just rolled underneath him.
05:11 And then we got a bad idea.
05:12 We're building up an o'clock and we're getting infill with rain.
05:15 So I assume it was gonna be in, but always know that there's still time on the clock.
05:20 We're gonna have to go back out there and make another play.
05:23 And unfortunately, they went out there and got the ball out quick.
05:28 And he put on the money and he was accurate when he needed to be.
05:32 >> With your offense's third down, the third and three,
05:36 the 41, the one that was picked off.
05:39 Do you kind of wish there that you guys, even if you did run the ball there?
05:45 >> I don't wish they would have did anything.
05:47 I trust what Setansky and the guys on offense do.
05:51 I mean, it's part of the game.
05:53 You can't take a call back from yourself.
05:55 Sometimes you just have to make a call right by making a play.
05:59 I mean, I don't play headbutt in the ball.
06:02 Never seen that one before, but they made a play on defense.
06:05 And it was our opportunity for us to make a play on defense.
06:08 We didn't at that moment.
06:10 So kudos to them for making a play when they needed to.
06:13 And go back in the lab, keep working, keep grinding,
06:17 figure out how we can get better and do the same in our number scope.
06:21 >> And Miles, obviously the ending is disappointing.
06:25 But if you look at where you were after the first three drives of the game and
06:28 then what you accomplished basically for two and a half quarters,
06:30 it seemed like there was a real tangible difference there.
06:34 What was it like on the sideline after giving up that field goal
06:38 where things flipped for you guys?
06:41 >> Well, can't just ignore the first quarter and a half.
06:45 And say, we had a good two and a half quarters.
06:50 No, that doesn't just go away.
06:52 As a whole, we didn't succeed as much as we should have.
06:55 We had to start faster.
06:56 We had to be more aggressive and moving the line of scrimmage,
07:01 making those TFLs and getting them on the back foot instead of them jumping on us.
07:07 I think they just had a little bit more want to at the very beginning of the game.
07:13 And they showed it.
07:14 Eventually, we'll see the challenge and got after them.
07:18 But I think it was a matter of,
07:21 ask that fed up, know what we can really do and who we are.
07:26 But we have to come into the game with that kind of mentality.
07:29 And it has to show from the beginning, campus just be talk or energy.
07:35 You have to apply it on the field.
07:37 And I think with what they were doing, they were having success.
07:41 A little bit of a, I'm out of position or I'm surprised by this.
07:47 But at the end of the day, you have to play with whatever the call is and attack.
07:52 >> Did you know Moe Hurst had hands like that?
07:57 >> No.
07:58 >> [LAUGH]
08:01 >> Yes, I wasn't surprised.
08:04 I see these guys every day and I'm not surprised they make plays.
08:07 Coach puts us in position to make plays.
08:11 And I'm looking back, thinking that one of the linebackers got in and
08:16 it's Moe, so when we do ball drills, all these guys are very,
08:22 are talented and athletic and can move the ball.
08:25 I'm just surprised he didn't get up and start rolling away with it.
08:29 But next time.
08:31 >> Thanks, boss.
