How the Container Deposit Scheme depot in Canadian works
Transcript
00:00 People will drive here to 8 Butt Street, Canadian, and they'll actually drive into our facility,
00:04 they'll park their car, take their containers out, mix them, they don't have to sort them
00:08 themselves, and they'll place them into our Singulator.
00:12 So a Singulator is a machine that sorts, scans and processes all the cans into eligible and
00:19 non-eligible or ineligible containers.
00:23 Plastic and cans go in into one container, which are then compacted down and taken off
00:28 to a recycling centre, and then glass goes into another container and goes to a separate
00:32 recycling centre.
00:34 And if someone's got an accidental bottle that can't be redeemed, what happens?
00:37 Yeah, so if someone brings something in that's ineligible, unfortunately we can't take it,
00:42 and we'll give it back to the customer to take with them to process in their own general
00:46 waste.
00:47 Items are scanned, we'll give the customer a receipt, and the receipt has a little QR
00:51 code on it, they'll take that over to our ATM, and it'll give them cold hard cash on
00:56 the spot.
00:57 So cans can be used, obviously, empty.
01:02 Bottles can still have their lids on them, preferably with their lids on, so they're
01:05 not floating around loose in our machine, which causes issues.
01:09 But they can be dented, they can be a little bit wrinkled or whatever, but definitely not
01:17 crushed.
01:18 So our Singulator has to be able to read the barcode on them, and it also measures the
01:23 weight and the length of the item as well to make sure it's eligible.
