00:00From Nan's famous cake to Dad's curry or Mum's homemade damper, are books still
00:07the main way to preserve family recipes or are we shifting to social media?
00:14This is my family recipe book. Inside it includes some recipes written in German
00:21and some women's weekly cutouts. These recipes are more than just dishes, they
00:27are ways to share language, culture and family history. But it's TikTok changing
00:34the way we pass on recipes? The change from recipe books to things like social
00:43media videos, TikToks, really helps us to capture not only the recipes themselves
00:48but also the other really important things that go into making our food. So
00:54it's relationships with our families, it's seeing the sorts of environments
00:59that we cook in and the kinds of technologies that we use and also seeing
01:03how people react to the taste of things and all of the things that are really
01:07important about food. The first day of Ramadan is always held at my mother's
01:12house. Her way of bringing her Lebanese traditions from her home country to her
01:16children and grandchildren. I want to pass these traditions to my own kids. My
01:21mum never taught me but I was in the kitchen watching her. You know even if
01:25I was stirring the pot or or just cleaning up next to her you would you
01:31would just absorb the whole process. What if I sing it? Can I sing it? You can sing it.
01:37Both Fatima and Rawia learned recipes by watching their mother's cook. Now
01:43they record the recipes and family time for future generations. It makes it more
01:50fun when you're actually filming and talking and you know you get into it
01:54and you get the excitement of it.
