00:00 Humanitarian aid for hundreds of families displaced in the region of Tyre in southern
00:05 Lebanon.
00:06 Since the 7th of October, more than 9,000 people have flocked to the coastal city, providing
00:11 a major headache for Tyre's disaster management unit, which is working around the clock to
00:16 take care of the influx.
00:20 Our first priority is to give all the displaced a mattress and bedclothes, especially as winter
00:25 is approaching and people are starting to feel the cold.
00:29 We don't have enough covers or pillows.
00:31 That's our priority.
00:32 With 400 to 500 displaced people arriving daily, space is at a premium.
00:37 Some have tried to return home but faced with the danger of the bombings, have changed their
00:41 minds.
00:46 They go back home for a day or two, but after the bombing of their village, sometimes using
00:50 white phosphorus, as was the case a few days ago, they come back.
00:59 Three schools in Tyre have been converted into shelters for families that have nowhere
01:03 else to go.
01:06 In these classrooms are stacked mattresses and some people sleep on the floor.
01:11 Hussein from the border village of Beit Lif has been here for more than two weeks.
01:16 He's struggling to adapt to his new conditions.
01:22 Of course when you leave your village and your home to live in a school, you sense a
01:26 lot of changes.
01:27 Imagine there being only one toilet for 400 people.
01:30 There's just one toilet and sometimes without any water.
01:33 We're suffering.
01:36 The 2006 war with Israel is on everyone's minds.
01:40 Many of these displaced are living through the same thing again.
01:46 Yes we went to Beirut and we suffered a lot, but we didn't feel scared like we are now.
01:51 We're scared because our conditions are difficult.
01:54 You have sick people, children, and Israel is bombing.
01:58 Israel is a country that has no mercy for children, for trees, for stones.
02:03 This is what frightens us.
02:07 For another family, the current ordeal is even worse.
02:10 It's very different.
02:13 In 2006 we didn't experience what we've gone through these past few weeks, especially in
02:17 our village, Daira.
02:19 We weren't bombed with phosphorus.
02:21 The houses weren't badly damaged with the exception of one.
02:24 All eyes are now on Gaza in the fear that another war with Israel might break out.
