00:28 in Santiago, Chile, where there's table tennis
00:31 going on right now.
00:32 Right behind me, there's several matches
00:34 going on in simultaneous table tennis.
00:37 It's a very popular discipline,
00:38 and a lot of matches are happening right now.
00:40 Of course, we're gonna have the latest results
00:42 for you guys in later editions,
00:44 but there's a big story in this sport, in table tennis.
00:48 There's an athlete that's sort of a celebrity
00:50 here down in Chile.
00:51 Her name, Ziyi Zeng.
00:54 Her, that's a strange name for a Chilean.
00:56 Yes, she was born in China.
00:58 She moved to Chile several years ago,
01:00 and now she plays for Team Chile,
01:02 specifically in table tennis.
01:04 That's not really the story,
01:06 because that's not very uncommon, actually.
01:08 There's a lot of Asian athletes that come to this part
01:11 of the world to compete for different federations.
01:13 Happens in Brazil, happens in Argentina, happens in Chile.
01:15 We saw it with badminton last week,
01:18 and in ping pong, it's very common.
01:20 The main story here, the fact, what makes her special,
01:23 is that she is 57 years old.
01:26 One of the oldest athletes who ever competed
01:28 on Pan American Games, so she's quite a celebrity,
01:31 and she's winning.
01:32 She's also, that's part of the story, that she is winning.
01:36 She is playing the semifinal games in a little bit.
01:39 It's about to start, actually, against the United States,
01:41 against Lili Zhang, and of course,
01:43 we are gonna follow her story.
01:45 Hopefully, she'll move forward all the way to the final.
01:49 Yesterday, we had a full day of action,
01:51 and we prepared the following story just for you guys,
01:54 so you can review the action from yesterday.

02:07 Sunday night, Argentina secured gold medal
02:10 at singles males tennis, with Facundo Diaz
02:13 defeating Tomas Barrios from Chile.

02:22 The same match with a lot of people.
02:24 Today's match, I think, I have never been to a match
02:27 with so many people cheering for him,
02:29 and so many people watching him.
02:30 So I take with me a lot of experiences,
02:34 and things I have lived that I will keep
02:36 for the rest of my life.
02:37 - This morning, fencing started at the National Stadium,
02:43 with several matches, where Venezuela had a very good start.
02:46 The men and female finals in fencing
02:48 are taking place around 6 p.m. local time.

02:53 In women's field hockey, Argentina defeated Trinidad
02:56 and Tobago 21 to zero, while Canada beat Mexico 5 to zero.
02:59 Softball action happening today,
03:05 where Puerto Rico defeated Peru 3-0,
03:07 while the United States beat Venezuela 9-2.
03:10 Finally, in surfing action, Colombia, Peru times three,
03:17 Brazil, and the U.S. times two, obtained gold medals.
03:20 Tomorrow, it will be the turn for the athletics finals,
03:23 including the fan favorite, 100 meter dash.

03:40 on disc throw, on the men's side,
03:42 Chile won the gold, and it wasn't expected,
03:44 but Chile finally got the gold medal,
03:46 the sixth gold medal for Chile.
03:48 There were a lot of excitement here in the country.
03:51 In the 10K women's, Peru got the gold medal,
03:54 Mexico got silver, and the United States got bronze.
03:58 Peru doing very well in long distance events.
04:00 They won the marathon, they won the race walk,
04:03 and yesterday, they won the 10K on the women's side.
04:06 On the mixed relay, four by 400,
04:08 Dominican Republic got first place,
04:10 Brazil got second place, and USA third.
04:13 Also, on fencing, United States beat Canada
04:16 for the gold on the women's side,
04:17 while Canada did the same on the men's side
04:19 against Chile for the gold.
04:22 In field hockey, yesterday, last night,
04:24 Chile defeated Cuba two to zero.
04:27 Chile moves to the semifinal,
04:28 where they're gonna face the United States,
04:30 a tough opponent.
04:31 And in judo, Cuba beat Chile.
04:33 100K men's final, gold for Cuba in judo.
04:37 And today, very exciting day in athletics,
04:40 the final of the long jump on the men's side,
04:43 the 5K on men's side, and the 100 meter dash
04:46 on the women's and men's side,
04:48 one of the most exciting events of these Pan American Games.
04:52 We're gonna head back to the table tennis
04:53 to see all the results and to see how Zing Zeng
04:58 from Chile is doing.
04:59 Hopefully, she will make it all the way to the final,
05:01 'cause it's gonna be an amazing story
