00:00 The Philippine government rejects China's claims that the Philippine Navy ship trespassed
00:04 into waters near Scarborough Shoal.
00:07 In a statement, National Security Advisor Eduardo Año says the country has the right
00:10 to conduct patrols in Scarborough because it is within its exclusive economic zone.
00:15 Año adds there was no untoward incident during the patrols conducted by BRP Conrado Yap.
00:20 Año urges China to stop overhyping the situation and avoid creating tensions between the two
00:25 countries.
00:26 "We cannot trespass in our own backyard and no one can prevent us from entering our own
00:33 home.
00:34 So there is no truth to what they're saying."
00:36 The Chinese military, on the other hand, says they are on high alert and are ready to defend
00:40 their territory and sovereignty.
00:43 More countries are standing with the Philippines when it comes to the increasing tensions in
00:47 the South China Sea, among them the Netherlands and New Zealand.
00:51 The Dutch foreign minister had an official visit to the Philippines after three decades
00:55 while New Zealand's biggest and newest navy ship docked in Manila after six years.
01:01 New Zealand hopes the goodwill visit will kickstart stronger maritime cooperation between
01:05 the two countries.
01:06 "New Zealand, like many nations, is aware that global security is more and more important
01:15 in 2023 than ever.
01:18 And of course the Philippines is an important part, an important country in the region."
01:23 New Zealand adds they are concerned with the growing tension in the region.
01:26 "This visit reflects New Zealand's own commitment to doing its bit to keep our region safe,
01:34 open and secure based on the rule of international law and to strengthen relations with our partners
01:42 in the region such as the Philippines."
01:44 Dutch Foreign Minister Hanke Bruinslaat and Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo, on
01:48 the other hand, discuss how the two countries can work together to implement rules-based
01:52 order in the region.
01:53 "The Netherlands stands with the Philippines in its call for the full observance of international
02:00 law in the South China Sea.
02:03 In that light, we support the 2016 ruling."
02:08 The Netherlands also calls for restraint for all parties and avoid miscalculations and
02:13 confrontations in the South China Sea.
