Did the success the New York Giants had in 2022 fool the team into thinking it was further along than it actually was? Former NFL player turned analyst Mike Golic Jr offers a thought about that on a recent Locked On Giants podcast episode.

00:00 Do you think the success they had last year in the first year of Shane and
00:03 Dable maybe set them back in retrospect?
00:06 Because now it's like, this is, this is probably the year they should have had
00:11 last year.
00:11 Well, I think this is a good reminder that most people don't, um, pay attention.
00:18 And this happened with the Vikings too, but the Vikings and the giants were both
00:21 the poster children for close wins are a really bad indicator of future success.
00:26 Like that always tends to regress to the mean.
00:28 And so hopefully everyone in New York has learned about the term regression
00:31 because we knew it was coming the way that you won games last year.
00:35 And the way that teams like the Vikings won games last year, it's not sustainable.
00:39 And so the team was always somewhere in the middle of that.
00:42 But to your point, that doesn't matter to the outside world that just sees results.
00:46 And so I don't know if it set them back, but it definitely put expectations in a
00:49 place that probably weren't going to be the healthiest, especially in New York
00:52 city, going into year two of a program, uh, knowing some of the constraints there.
00:57 But I do think it highlights that, Hey, in the off season,
01:00 you probably could have done more,
01:01 especially on the perimeter and finding weapons and securing.
01:03 I think it's going to create a bit of a sense of urgency, uh, in some areas going
01:07 forward where yeah, obviously offensive line is going to be the thing you'd, you
01:10 know, circle multiple times on the sheet, really got to get this down.
01:13 But I think you've got to find more people that can get you a win across the
01:18 board and you've tried to do it down the spine of your offense.
01:21 That's worked with some success with Saquon and with Darren when he's been
01:24 healthy on the field.
01:25 But I think in general, it's going to put more of that focus on the perimeter
01:28 and continuing to find game breakers because Daniel's going to be here again
