00:02 Plans for the much anticipated £200 million Gateway at Peak resort development in Chesterfield
00:09 have taken a major step forward after developers submitted a new planning application for the
00:13 scheme. The development is designed to create a green travel hub for access to and from the Peak
00:19 District National Park, along with a 165-room resort hotel, a variety of food and drink outlets,
00:25 as well as shops where people can try and buy a range of equipment to use for outdoor pursuits
00:30 and adventure sports. Outline planning permission for the resort had already been granted at the
00:35 Unston site, which was formerly a golf course and before that open casting, but now a revised
00:40 planning application for phase one of the development has been submitted to Chesterfield
00:44 Borough Council. The development is led by Milligan, a specialist destination real estate
00:50 developer, which is working closely with Chesterfield Borough Council, the University of
00:54 Derby and the Peak District National Park Authority. Milligan's aim is to create a world-class tourist
00:59 destination which visitors can use as their base camp for exploring the Peak District and other
01:04 local attractions across Derbyshire. A legal settlement has finally been agreed after a
01:11 noxious gas and highly combustible chemical were discovered coming from a coal seam under newly
01:16 built Chesterfield Council houses, which then had to be demolished. The four Chesterfield
01:21 Borough Council houses were built on Rufford Close at Boythorpe in 2019, but had to be demolished
01:26 soon afterwards during a costly episode following the detection of gases and reports of a suspected
01:32 fire in the foundations. Chesterfield Borough Council leader Trisha Gilbey has now told a
01:37 council meeting that, following legal proceedings, she is pleased to announce the council has been
01:41 able to settle the matter by arbitration. However, nothing has been formally revealed by the council
01:47 about the identity of any other legal party or the amounts of money that have been involved.
