00:00 Hi, I'm Laura Reid, the Deputy Features Editor at the Yorkshire Post. Just come on to talk
00:06 you through what's likely to be making headlines in the week ahead.
00:10 On Tuesday, King Charles is set to deliver his first King's Speech for the state opening
00:15 of Parliament. He did do the speech at the last state opening in May 2022, but that was
00:20 in place of his late mother, the Queen. So this time when he opens session, it'll be
00:26 the first time that he's done so in his official capacity as monarch. This speech is due to
00:33 set out the legislative programme for the next session of Parliament and it'll also
00:37 give an indication of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's priorities ahead of the next general
00:44 election.
00:45 In other news, York-born Dame Judi Dench is among those who are set to speak on a new
00:53 BBC Shakespeare documentary which is launching on Wednesday. Shakespeare, The Rise of a Genius
00:58 celebrates the 400th anniversary of the publication of William Shakespeare's first folio and it's
01:04 billed as telling the story of how a glover's son from rural Stratford became the greatest
01:10 writer who ever lived.
01:12 At the weekend, the Princess Royal will attend the Armistice Day service in Staffordshire
01:17 at the National Memorial Arboretum on Saturday. There's then a National Service of Remembrance
01:23 taking place at the Cenotaph in London on Sunday starting at 11am and that service is
01:29 due to commemorate the contribution of the British and Commonwealth servicemen and women
01:35 in the two world wars and the conflicts that have followed since.
01:40 Also at the weekend, the famous Doncaster-built Flying Scotsman will be in the city to mark
01:45 its 100th anniversary. It was built in Doncaster in 1923 and thousands of visitors are expected
01:54 to attend a ticketed event to see the Flying Scotsman when it arrives in Doncaster.
02:04 And finally, in other news, the friendship between the former Leeds Rhino players Rob
02:09 Burrow and Kevin Sinfield will be celebrated in a new book that's due to be released on
02:14 Thursday. It's called With You Every Step, a Celebration of Friendship and it brings
02:19 to life words from both the men who obviously raised lots of money after Rob Burrow was
02:27 diagnosed with motor neurone disease. It's said to aim to create an inspiring and hopeful
02:34 celebration of love, support and connection and for every copy that's sold, a donation
02:40 will be made to be split equally between the Motor Neurone Disease Association and Leeds
02:45 Hospital Charity.
