Joe Nicholson and Phil Smith react after Sunderland's goalless draw against Swansea City
Transcript
00:00 Here at the swansea.com stadium where Sunderland have been held to a frustrating goalless draw against 10 men.
00:08 Swansea side, Charlie Patino was sent off two yellow cards in the first half.
00:12 Anthony Patterson then saved a penalty for Sunderland just before half-time.
00:16 A frustrating afternoon in the end Phil for Tony Mowbray's side.
00:19 Yeah, it's a long way to travel for a 0-0 draw isn't it?
00:22 I think it was a strange game. I thought Sunderland were as good as we've seen them all season in the first half now.
00:27 When it was 11 v 11, created really good chances, played some excellent football.
00:31 And actually I think the frustration is that they probably didn't maintain that level actually when, after the red card.
00:38 And actually, although they were dominant, I don't think they created anywhere near the level of chances you would expect
00:43 given they played for an hour with an extra player.
00:45 And that was Mowbray's frustration after, you know, and he talked about the inexperience of the strikers struggling to find space in the box.
00:50 I think you could see that in the end.
00:52 I think you have to say Swansea, for the way they defended, I think they denied someone big chances.
00:56 I think they probably deserved the point.
00:57 Yeah, they put men behind the ball again, but it was a game where Sunderland again just lacked that cutting edge.
01:02 Rooster had a chance in the first half, Mowbray brought some more attacking players on in the second half with Hamir, Dak, Pritchard came on.
01:07 But that lack of cutting edge there again.
01:09 Yeah, I think it took until the last 15 minutes and really pushed Swansea right back into their own box.
01:13 It was a really disappointing second half up until that point.
01:16 And then it was just about the precision wasn't it? The crossing wasn't quite there.
01:19 The movement in the box was quite good enough.
01:21 So I think Mowbray will be disappointed. I don't think he got enough from his bench.
01:23 I think the players who came on who had that fresh legs, playing against 10, I think they needed to be a little bit better in terms of the quality.
01:29 Listen, it's no great sort of disaster for Sunderland.
01:32 We know they're a good side.
01:33 They showed that again.
01:34 They completely outplayed Swansea when it was 11 v 11, away from home.
01:37 They looked superb.
01:38 But we know that it's a work in progress at the top end of the pitch.
01:42 And we've seen that again today.
01:44 And unfortunately, I don't think there's a quick fix there, given the inexperience of the strikers we're talking about.
01:48 Also a double blow in the second half with both Luconon and Dan Ballard.
01:52 Picked up yellow cards.
01:53 That means they've now both got five yellow cards this season.
01:56 They'll be suspended for next weekend's game at home against Birmingham back at the Stadium of Light.
02:01 You can read more about today's match over on the SFC section of the Sunderland Echo website.
