00:00 In Palestine, the Israeli regime continues with endless aggressions against the Palestinian
00:13 people, with authorities registering more than 9,000 killed so far, among them 3,900
00:20 children.
00:22 In Brazil, President Luiz Inácio da Silva approved a support plan against organized
00:26 crime in the state of Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo.
00:32 And in Rwanda, the government announced visa-free travel to the country for African citizens
00:37 in order to promote the free movement of people and trade.
00:42 Hello, welcome from the south.
00:46 I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Edresu Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:50 We begin with the news.
01:02 The Israeli occupation committed 10 massacres against the Gaza Strip in the last hours,
01:06 leaving 231 Palestinians killed.
01:08 According to figures from the Ministry of Health, there are now 9,488 dead after 29
01:13 days of the Israeli siege.
01:15 The health ministry also registered 3,900 children killed since October 7, while the
01:20 number of wounded is more than 24,000.
01:23 Authorities also reported that Israel deliberately attacked 105 health institutions and put 16
01:28 hospitals out of service.
01:30 The Israeli occupation forces have not ceased their attacks against hospitals, shelters,
01:34 schools, sacred places, among others, in spite of the constant calls for several countries
01:39 to stop the violence against the Palestinian people.
01:47 On Saturday, Israelis bombed yet another apartment building in the new Saray refugee camp in
01:51 central Gaza.
01:52 As a result, seven people from one single family were killed and five others wounded.
01:57 This is the latest in a series of airstrikes following Israel's ground invasion and encirclement
02:01 of Gaza City.
02:08 The onslaught of the Israeli occupation force against Palestine continues, with massive
02:12 detentions in the occupied West Bank.
02:15 At least 50 Palestinians were apprehended during Israeli raids on Palestinian homes
02:19 in the Al-Fawar refugee camp.
02:21 According to authorities, more than 2,000 Palestinians remain under illegal arrest in
02:26 the West Bank and Jerusalem since the escalation of Israel's siege on the Palestinian people
02:30 during 29 consecutive days of bombardment and massacres.
02:34 In Palestine, Israeli attacks on residential complexes and health care centers continue.
02:44 Over the past 24 hours, Israel has reportedly intensified its attacks on hospitals, schools
02:49 and residential buildings.
02:50 Among the attacks perpetrated by Israel are those targeting the entrance of Al-Quds Hospital
02:54 in central Gaza, which left some 21 dead.
02:57 In addition, some 15 Palestinians were reported killed in the attacks on the gate of Al-Shifa
03:02 Hospital, considered the largest hospital in Gaza.
03:06 The Saudi attacks were also reported in the vicinity of the Indonesian hospital and the
03:10 Nasr Hospital.
03:16 On Saturday, Israeli occupational forces launched new massive attacks against southern Lebanon.
03:21 Israeli forces confirmed the military actions and added that they carried out air, tank
03:25 and artillery strikes against Hezbollah infrastructure, missile depots and military installations.
03:30 They also stated that these air strikes were in response to repeated rocket attacks against
03:34 northern Israel by Hezbollah.
03:36 The leader of the Lebanese resistance movement, Sayed Hassan Nasrallah, warned in his first
03:41 speech after the start of the Gaza conflict that Israel would make one of the biggest
03:44 mistakes in its history if it attacks Lebanon.
03:52 On Saturday, in Iran, demonstrations were held throughout the country in support of
03:55 the Palestinian people, condemning the war crimes perpetrated by Israel.
03:59 The mass rallies began in the capital, Tehran, at 9 a.m. local time and were replicated in
04:04 over 1,200 cities in the country, marking the National Day Against World Arrogance.
04:10 People expressed their unwavering support for the resilient, oppressed people of Gaza
04:14 and for Palestinian resistance groups.
04:16 As a symbol of protest against the genocide perpetrated by the Zionist regime, students
04:21 in Tehran set the flags of Israel and the United States on fire.
04:31 Also in Australia, dozens of people gathered in support of the Palestinian people.
04:34 The largest rally was held at Sydenham High Park, where some 10,000 people expressed their
04:40 support for the Palestinians and denounced the Israeli bombardment of the Gaza Strip.
04:45 Shame on Israel was one of the most repeated slogans during the rally.
04:48 The demonstrators also waved Palestinian flags and chanted "Free Palestine."
04:53 Demonstrators also urged for a ceasefire and for humanitarian aid to be allowed into the
04:57 besieged Gaza.
05:04 And a New Zealand activist prevented a ship carrying arms from Israel from sailing.
05:09 On Saturday, dozens of supporters of the Palestinian cause gathered near a U.S. warship loaded
05:13 with weapons bound for Israel.
05:15 The ship had to be re-docked in the port of Auckland due to the pressure from the demonstrators.
05:19 The people of New Zealand joined many others worldwide in expressing their solidarity with
05:23 the Palestinian people and condemning the genocide perpetrated by Israel.
05:33 And demonstrations continued around the world in support of the Palestinian people.
05:37 In Brazil, 13 biggest city citizens took to the streets to protest against the genocide
05:42 in Gaza.
05:43 Demonstrators called for the immediate end of Israel's extermination war against the
05:47 Palestinian people while condemning Israel's shelling of civilian structures and the murder
05:52 of innocent children.
05:54 Those protesting also called on the Brazilian government to take a stand and stop all relations
05:58 with the Zionist regime.
06:04 We are demanding that the Brazilian government interrupt all negotiations and contracts and
06:09 all relationships it has with the Zionist Israeli government.
06:12 There is no way a country like ours, which is totally democratic, to have relations with
06:17 a country which is exterminating an entire population.
06:20 It's unacceptable.
06:22 In the midst of a challenging situation, the people of Palestine continue to demonstrate
06:26 on weathering resilience and hope.
06:28 Despite being displaced from their homes and being victims of hooligan attacks for nearly
06:32 a month, they refuse to let their hopes and aspirations disappear.
06:36 Earth Pressure collaborator Mohamed El Saifeh has testimonies from a displaced woman in
06:40 Palestine.
06:41 Let's see.
06:42 When the bombing started here, it was a warning bombing.
06:47 We went out, and halfway there I remember the birds.
06:51 I went back and looked for them.
06:53 I was not afraid of the bombs.
06:55 I looked for the birds and I came.
06:58 They live with me.
06:59 I sleep near them.
07:01 They eat what I eat.
07:02 I go out and look for food for them.
07:04 Under the attacks, I looked for food for them.
07:07 Being in the hospital, I had the birds with me.
07:10 I feed them in spite of everything.
07:11 I don't abandon them.
07:14 As you can see, we are here in the palace of Sheikh Zayed.
07:17 I moved from here to Nasser Hospital.
07:19 I have been here for 21 days.
07:22 It's been a devastating war.
07:23 In this war, your enemy bombs you.
07:27 We gave many martyrs.
07:28 It is an unworthy life.
07:30 There is no water, no bread, no electricity.
07:33 We have nothing.
07:34 Life here is very hard, very difficult.
07:37 But we always thank God.
07:38 We are resistant.
07:40 The whole world abandoned us.
07:41 We are alone in this.
07:44 Let's now take a short break, but remember you can join us on TikTok @teresulenglish
07:48 where you'll find news in different formats, news updates, and much more.
07:52 Other stories coming up.
07:53 Stay with us.
07:54 Welcome back from the south.
08:13 The Brazilian government approved a support plan against organized crime in the states
08:17 of Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo.
08:19 President Luis Inácio Lula da Silva signed a decree establishing the creation of an integrated
08:23 operation to combat organized crime, specifically for the Port of Rio de Janeiro, Port of Santos,
08:29 Port of Itaguay, Galeão Airport and Gurulus Airport.
08:33 Established there will be an integrated monitoring committee for security actions, coordinated
08:37 by the justice and defense authorities, with the help of the Federal Police and the Rio
08:42 Civil Police to suppress militias and drug trafficking.
08:45 The two portfolios are to present a plan to modernize the actions of the aeronautics and
08:49 navy with the aim of improving the operations at ports, airports and borders.
08:58 In Venezuela, a recent survey by the pollster Dataviva revealed that more than 63% of the
09:03 population in the nation would vote for the ruling party's candidate over the opposition's
09:07 independent candidates.
09:08 The study carried out for the 2024 elections indicates that only 3% of those consulted
09:13 participated in the opposition primaries, compared to 80% who did not participate.
09:19 It also indicates that the United Socialist Party of Venezuela remains the country's leading
09:23 political force, above the opposition and independent parties.
09:41 Russia's air defense forces managed to shoot down four Ukrainian drones over the Kursk and
09:45 Belgorod regions.
09:46 The information was confirmed by the Russian Ministry of Defense in a statement in which
09:50 it detailed that the attempt of the Ukrainian military to commit terrorist attacks with
09:54 the aircraft-type drones against targets on the territory of Russia was foiled.
09:59 The security agency stressed that the on-duty air defense systems destroyed all Ukrainian-manned
10:03 aerial vehicles over Belgorod and Kursk regions.
10:06 The Russian provinces bordering Ukraine are regularly attacked with shells and drones,
10:10 forcing the population to seek shelter elsewhere.
10:17 In Russia, an expo showcasing the country's achievements opened on Saturday.
10:22 The expo occupies a vast exposition ground in northern Moscow, built under Stalin and
10:26 renowned for its collection of elaborate so-called Soviet Gothic-style pavilions.
10:32 It will remain open through the month leading to the coming presidential elections next
10:35 March, in which current President Vladimir Putin is expected to take part.
10:39 Putin has led Russia alternatively as either president or prime minister since 2000.
10:44 If re-elected, this would extend his term until 2030.
10:47 Thematically, the exposition focuses on Russia as a country of diverse ethnic groups and
10:52 cultures unified by a sense of national purpose.
10:55 If financing for adult athletes is already complicated for young athletes who are just
11:19 starting out, it is even more difficult.
11:22 Natalina, a 16-year-old long-distance runner who was left out of the Pan American Games
11:26 in Chile because of her age, but is already preparing for the World Championships in her
11:30 discipline, knows this well.
11:32 The problem?
11:33 She's almost $5,000 short.
11:35 Let's see the following story.
11:37 A few meters from the National Stadium in Santiago de Chile, Guillermo is against time.
11:42 He's trying to find a medalist to interview for the next edition of the news program,
11:47 Keyword Sport, while answering some seasonal messages.
11:51 He is a sports journalist with more than 30 years of experience, who is now experiencing
11:56 firsthand the fact that athletes have no funding.
12:00 He is organizing a raffle for his 16-year-old granddaughter, who is ranked seventh in the
12:06 world in cross-country skating.
12:08 I believe that our sports, our kids need more support from every point of view, and I don't
12:14 think they're getting it right now.
12:16 As a family, we had to make a raffle, get gift cards with friends.
12:20 There are many people who are helping us, but in the end, our money is not enough.
12:23 Our means are not enough.
12:28 Probably shows the photos of his little Catalina and offers raffle numbers.
12:32 Obviously, it is urgent to finance the preseason with a view to the 2024 World Cup.
12:39 But it may not only be an achievement for our families, but also an achievement like
12:43 so many athletes today who are in the National Stadium representing Chile, with a lot of
12:47 effort and that I have been able to see.
12:51 Young Catalina started skating at the age of eight.
12:54 It was a hobby that today she remembers with emotion.
12:58 She never thought of becoming a professional when she was a little girl, and dreamed of
13:02 becoming a sport doctor.
13:04 It started as a hobby.
13:05 Then I started to get the hang of it.
13:06 My second year in the sport went very well.
13:07 I started to win races, and I started to realize it was a whole world.
13:17 That there were people who won medals.
13:20 And I said, I want this.
13:23 In Chile, and probably in all of Latin America, being a high-performance athlete is a family
13:28 challenge.
13:29 This is no exception.
13:30 That's why they are focused on the raffle.
13:33 They need to raise about $5,000.
13:36 We love and enjoy being able to accompany her in this process, a path that has not been
13:42 without sacrifices, in time, and structure, and above all, financially.
13:48 However, we are willing to keep working, to keep fighting, so that she can fulfill her
13:53 dreams.
13:54 Catalina is part of the national team of athletes.
13:57 She is on the National Sport Institute list of promising athletes of Chile, and receives
14:02 support that, if it did not exist, would have simply ended her career.
14:07 However, it is not enough.
14:10 Her promises have a present to finance.
14:13 It is a dream.
14:14 It is something that I say, I want to be there soon.
14:17 I know that they have worked hard for that, and I know that I am doing it, too.
14:21 And I will achieve it, in every international event, to get a gold for Chile, and hopefully,
14:26 be in the next Pan American Games.
14:28 With illusion, he follows the medals of his teammates who are in the Pan American Games.
14:36 This time, Chile has left the baron skating quarters only for the Italy.
14:41 Catalina has no urgency.
14:42 She is calmly preparing for the gold.
14:45 She knows she will soon have hanging around her neck.

15:30 Welcome back to From the South.
15:32 The government of Rwanda announced that it would allow visa-free travel to the country
15:35 for African citizens in order to promote the free movement of people and trade.
15:40 The president of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, made the announcement during the 23rd Summit of
15:44 the World Travel and Tourism Council, while highlighting the potential of Africa as a
15:48 unified tourist destination for a continent that still depends on 60 percent of its tourists
15:53 from outside Africa, according to United Nations data.
15:56 Kagame specified that any African will be able to take a plane to Rwanda whenever he
16:01 or she wishes and would not have to pay anything to enter Kigali.
16:06 Once the measure is implemented, Rwanda will become the fourth African country to eliminate
16:10 travel restrictions for Africans.
16:22 In Brazil, at least three people died this Friday due to events caused by heavy rains
16:35 in the state of Sao Paulo.
16:37 The state civil defense reported the death of two people in the cities of Osasco and
16:41 Santo André, and a third in Bracava, all victims of collapsed walls.
16:46 The rains were accompanied by winds that reached speeds of more than 100 km/h, causing the
16:50 fall of 100 trees and 46 landslides.
16:53 The regional government indicated that the fire department attended around 800 emergency
16:57 calls reporting failures in the electric service in several localities of the area.
17:09 Indian authorities are on alert due to the severe fog that remains in the country and
17:14 that they qualify as worrisome.
17:16 According to the Central Pollution Control Board, the pollution level reaches 440, being
17:20 50 the ideal healthy index.
17:23 For this reason, an emergency meeting was held in which the local government proposed
17:27 the implementation of a long-term plan, including the temporary suspension of construction.
17:32 In this context, authorities urge the population to stay at home and, if they have to move
17:36 around, to do it by public transport to reduce emissions.
17:43 In Nepal, a 6.4 magnitude earthquake in the west of the country killed at least 157 people
17:49 and injured more than 185.
17:51 The earthquake hit at 11.47 pm local time on Friday night.
17:55 Its epicenter was located in the Jajarkot district, with a depth of 10 to 15 km.
17:59 Although the magnitude of the earthquake was not serious, the damage and death toll are
18:03 high due to the poor quality of the construction in the area and because it occurred while
18:07 people were sleeping.
18:08 Search and rescue efforts continue for the moment by the fire department, who are trying
18:13 to find the whereabouts of more people.
18:15 The most affected areas are the districts of Rukum and Jajarkot, and they are also the
18:20 most difficult regions to access after the last earthquake in 2015.
18:33 In this context, rescue planes carrying injured people arrived in Nepal's Gunj after evacuation
18:39 efforts.
18:40 Rescue authorities said the death toll was expected to rise and noted that communications
18:43 with many locations were cut at the site.
18:46 Troops were clearing roads and mountain paths blocked by landslides, while helicopters ferried
18:51 health workers and medicine to hospitals.
18:59 In Uruguay, the number of people evacuated due to the flooding of the Uruguay River in
19:03 the north and west of the country increased to more than 3,000.
19:06 The National Emergency System stated that the high water levels caused the preventive
19:10 evacuation of the affected areas.
19:11 In spite of the fact that the level of the river reached a slight decrease, the precipitation
19:16 that has lashed the nation for a week affected seven departments.
19:20 In this sense, the National Emergency System foresees a new wave of floods that would reach
19:25 its maximum between the 9th and 10th of November.
19:28 However, the institution considers the situation to be stable.
19:36 We have come to the end of this news brief.
