00:00 Thousands of people gathered on Sunday in front of the U.S. military base near the city
00:04 of Adana in Turkey in solidarity with the Palestinian people and to demand the shutdown
00:08 of the base.
00:09 Our correspondent in Turkey, Yunus Soner, brings us now details of these demonstrations.
00:17 The demonstration is over in front of the Incirlik U.S. military base in Adana in the
00:23 south of Turkey.
00:28 Here in the back now, you can have a better view of the military base.
00:33 The access to this part had been closed to the public before, but don't be confused
00:39 with the Turkey flags you see there.
00:44 This is a shared base.
00:46 The Turkey armed forces also have units here, but the base is mostly known for its U.S.
00:53 operations during the Iraq war and operations in Syria, Lebanon and the eastern Mediterranean.
01:02 The demonstration is over and most of the participants have left the area.
01:08 You can still see small groups in the background facing off the police.
01:13 They are small groups trying to move on.
01:18 The police are using tear gas and pressure water, but all is sending now.
01:24 What I appreciate is that people are happy to have expressed their opinions in front
01:30 of the clear symbol of the United States in Turkey, which is this base.
01:38 We have learned some groups tried to enter the base.
01:41 Some say they were provocateurs, others that they were angry groups.
01:46 There are mixed opinions, but what is clear is that this demonstration, part peaceful
01:52 and part violent, sent a clear message to the Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who
01:59 is visiting Ankara today, to lower the tensions in the region around the tragedy provoked
02:05 by the Israeli aggression to Gaza.
02:09 Obviously, it will be very difficult for him to convince the Turkish people and even its
02:16 government, which took a stand by withdrawing its ambassador from Tel Aviv yesterday.
02:23 So the United States and its Secretary of State have a tough agenda here in Ankara.
02:28 Back to you now.
02:29 It was very difficult here in Ankara.
02:31 You have the word.
