Taitung's Tiehua Music Village To Close

Tiehua Music Village, a cultural hub for Indigenous singers and bands in southeastern Taiwan is set to close at the end of the year.

00:13 Known as Tiehua Music Village, the venue has been an important base for indigenous musicians,
00:20 accommodating superstars and local amateurs alike.
00:24 The music seen here has been a boon for tourism, but the village's operators have announced
00:29 it will close at the end of the year.
00:35 Tiehua Village was originally a warehouse site around the Taitung Railway Station.
00:40 For years, the structures were left disused.
00:44 An NGO focusing on regional revitalization stepped in in 2009 and set about giving the
00:50 area a facelift.
00:53 Aside from live music, there's also a market selling indigenous craft works and products
00:58 from independent farmers.
01:00 Though Tiehua Village is set to close, the foundation that runs it says it will find
01:06 another way to support the local community.
01:08 "Under the consideration of the future of the village, we decided to make a good transition.
01:19 First, we want to close Tiehua Village."
01:22 "Although we feel regretful to the county government, we can only respect Tiehua Village
01:27 and its current management.
01:28 If they have other needs, including location, we will be happy to assist."
01:36 Tiehua Music Village is set to hold its final show on the last day of the year.
01:40 After that, the county government will take over management of the site.
01:45 It says it hopes to preserve something of the village spirit moving forward.
