Massive earnings and CPI headline this upcoming week! Tune in as @stockmktnewz @Gurgavin & I make it all easy to understand.
Transcript
00:00 Today, we're covering everything that you need to know to be an informed investor in
00:06 the stock market this coming week, especially because we have a huge CPI print.
00:11 More on that to come.
00:12 Make sure that you watch this full video so that you don't miss it.
00:14 We're going to start out, though, with all these key earnings which are happening this
00:18 week.
00:19 Looking at the list, I would say ones that stand out to me are Palantir, Shopify, Airbnb,
00:23 DraftKings.
00:24 What's standing out to you, Evan?
00:27 First of all, if you do enjoy the video, make sure you give it a like and subscribe and
00:31 check out all of our channels here.
00:33 I definitely do agree all on those.
00:35 A lot of those do stand out to me.
00:37 DraftKings on Thursday.
00:39 Applied Materials should also be interesting in there.
00:41 Coca-Cola, in my mind, is that biggest one on the week.
00:45 Earnings whispers like to sort this chart based on popularity, so I'm a little surprised
00:49 to see Tuesday after the close, Airbnb below Devon Energy.
00:53 Maybe it shows you kind of the market and how hot energy is, but that's a lot of the
00:58 stuff.
00:59 We have Palantir coming on Monday.
01:00 Normally, they go before the market open, but they're going after the market close.
01:03 I believe this is the first time that's happening.
01:05 A lot of really big earnings to watch this week.
01:07 Gurg, is there anything we didn't talk about there?
01:09 Any of these earnings you'll be looking at?
01:10 Yeah, even for Tuesday, surprisingly, Upstart is way below.
01:15 Usually Upstart is a big favorite among Twitter and other investors.
01:20 Then you have Roblox on Wednesday, Shopify, Roku.
01:24 DraftKings will be a big one after Super Bowl tomorrow.
01:27 Yeah, definitely.
01:29 Plus, I would say Datadog is probably in a similar area as well.
01:33 Then we talked about John Deere.
01:35 I think that's a good start.
01:36 Nothing runs like a deer.
01:37 Yes.
01:38 Evan, do you want to dig a little bit further into earnings?
01:41 Yes, let's go in.
01:43 Let's check out that earnings whispers website.
01:46 When we look on this website, just quickly, we're going to scroll through all the numbers
01:49 and you can pause if you want to see what they are.
01:52 The estimates, that is what Wall Street is expecting.
01:54 EPS is expected to be $0.63 for Palantir.
01:57 Ooh, $0.03 for Palantir, $0.63 would be great for them.
01:59 Then Wall Street is expecting revenue of $505 million.
02:04 Then below Palantir, you can see it says AMC.
02:07 That means after market close.
02:09 When it gives you a time, that's what time to expect the numbers to be released.
02:13 Let's scroll through all of those numbers.
02:15 Right here we have Coca-Cola in the morning on Tuesday.
02:17 Cleveland Cliffs, a couple others.
02:21 After the close, Airbnb is actually first there on top of Devon Energy, but you also
02:25 see Upstart Expectations, Live in Energy.
02:28 We know it's a Stock Talk weekly favorite.
02:32 Wednesday, Roblox, Trade Desk, Kraft Heinz, Krispy Kreme, et cetera.
02:38 See all the expectations there.
02:40 Yep.
02:41 And then after market close on Wednesday, those big ones being Shopify, Roku.
02:45 I would say Twilio, I would throw even there above Cisco.
02:47 I know Cisco is a big name, but Twilio gets a lot of popularity on FinTwit.
02:51 And then some more of those energy names coming in hot as well.
02:55 Thursday, I mentioned Datadog beforehand.
02:57 Crocs coming in there too.
02:59 And then, Gerg, you mentioned DraftKings, after market close.
03:04 Not the biggest name when it comes to revenue and some other stuff, but certainly very timely
03:08 with the Super Bowl, right?
03:10 Yep.
03:11 And then you have Doordash along with that.
03:13 And Wales is a pretty big company that almost no one talks about.
03:17 Absolutely.
03:19 And then the last one on Friday, which we talked about is John Deere.
03:23 Does end up being pretty popular.
03:24 Again, they're a pretty large company, pretty sizable EPS expectations as well as revenue.
03:29 So we'll see if they're able to meet or miss, and that'll probably carry over into the following
03:33 week ahead.
03:34 Are we all good on earnings, Evan?
03:35 Yep.
03:36 I think that is some really good coverage right there.
03:38 I'm excited to go and talk through the macro calendar for the week.
03:41 So you can look at it right there.
03:43 On Tuesday, before the open, 8.30 AM.
03:47 Definitely the biggest event of the macro week.
03:49 We also have PPI coming up a little bit.
03:52 I believe that is on Thursday or Friday, a little bit lower on this calendar.
03:55 Maybe we'll talk about it a little bit later on Thursday before the open.
03:58 PPI will be interesting.
04:00 But let's talk through that CPI number a little bit if you want to scroll over to the next
04:04 page.
04:05 And then we'll go over to Gavin.
04:06 You can give us what they're expecting.
04:10 So for CPI, as you guys can see, the year-over-year headline numbers expected to come in at 6.2.
04:18 The one that I focus mainly is the month-over-month core CPI, which is excluding food and energy.
04:26 That is going to be 0.4.
04:29 And Evan, can you tell the people that last month's CPI was revised higher?
04:36 I see no one talking about that.
04:37 You can actually see it.
04:39 So where CPI month-over-month, it says prior and revised.
04:43 We previously had the market ran off of a number that was below expectations, and now
04:47 they revised it higher.
04:48 So it will be interesting to see how that affects the market.
04:51 I kind of find it also fascinating that the year-over-year number didn't have any change,
04:55 even though a month part of it is different.
04:58 That should probably have an effect, but who am I to throw that out there?
05:03 Yeah, who are we?
05:05 And so for the estimates for Tuesday on the 14th of February, we have the median is 6.2.
05:14 We do have some people between 5.8 and 6.7, but most of those are just small prop shops.
05:21 So if you look at this, this sorts them by the ranking.
05:27 The number one rated analyst is Oscar of TD Securities.
05:32 He is at 6.2.
05:34 This guy has been the most accurate one.
05:38 He's always spot on or under.
05:42 He's never over that.
05:43 So if he's expecting 6.2, we will rally regardless.
05:48 HSBC is at 6.2.
05:50 Nemura 6.2 again.
05:52 Jeffery 6.2.
05:54 The only one that is off on the top 8 is SMBC for some reason still at 6.7.
06:02 These guys still have a Monday to revise it up or down.
06:07 I think they might lower the estimates, but Valfargo is number 8 at 6.2 again.
06:14 So Gorgavin Capital also estimated 6.2.
06:19 How about you guys, Wolf and Gav and Nevin?
06:23 Yeah, I'm going to roll with it.
06:26 Yeah, well, Evan, I don't know if you want to throw it in here, but I'm going to go with
06:30 6.3.
06:31 You know, that's actually what I was going to go with.
06:34 I don't want to, I'm not a Gorgavin Capital type, just go with the consensus.
06:38 So I got to be at least a little different.
06:40 Go with 6.1.
06:41 Yeah, 6.1.
06:42 Do I go 6.1 or do I go 6.4?
06:46 We're going to shock the world here.
06:50 6.5.
06:51 6.5.
06:52 Okay.
06:53 So, Evan wants the market to tank for 5%.
07:00 So we've talked about this before and you got to come on all of our spaces here a little
07:05 bit more.
07:06 I do have a decent bit of cash on the sidelines, so maybe I do want that.
07:10 Yeah, it wouldn't be a problem.
07:11 So just like everybody saw with those numbers that we just covered, 6.5% was the previous,
07:18 6.2% is that median forecast for this one.
07:20 We had those revised numbers beforehand up to plus 0.1% on CPI.
07:27 And then as you briefly hit on beforehand, we also have PPI coming in Thursday at 8.30
07:33 AM EST.
07:34 We've got retail sales coming in Wednesday at 8.30 AM EST.
07:37 And then we also have these jobless claims that are coming in at 8.30.
07:41 All really important right now as the economy continues to figure out, are we or are we
07:46 not in a recession?
07:47 Evan, anything else you think we should go over?
07:50 No, I think that was pretty fantastic.
07:53 If you did enjoy the video, make sure you give it a like, make sure you subscribe to
07:57 all three of our channels.
07:59 And I think that's good for me.
08:01 Yeah, perfect.
08:02 You can check us out on Twitter as well.
08:03 My Twitter is @Wolf_Financial.
08:05 Evan's is @StockMKTNews with a Z and @GergGavin is the account for the one that says iPhone
08:12 up here on the screen.
08:13 Gerg, you got anything else you want to add on to this one?
08:16 Nope.
08:17 There we go.
08:18 All right, everybody.
08:19 Hopefully this was helpful for you.
08:20 Feel free to come back next week.
