00:00 You're back with Hot Rod TV and the Car Bash known as the Good Guys Nationals in Columbus,
00:07 Ohio. One of the awards at the event, the prize known as the definition of cool, is
00:13 a trophy many here want to cruise off with. And with all the cool cars here, it's going
00:20 to be a tough decision for the judges. It is pretty tough and pretty daunting because
00:26 the best builders in the country and the best garage builders in the country, home builders
00:31 in the country, bring their cars out here to Columbus to debut them or to really get
00:35 that national publicity. So it's going to be a tough one, but we'll have some fun checking
00:40 them out while we're here. What do you think of this one, Josh? This is beautiful. I actually
00:44 saw this at the Detroit Autorama. Traditional style, three window, got it right. The stance
00:50 is right, full fender, which you don't necessarily see all the time. It looks like it did come
00:54 out of the pages of Hop-Up Magazine in about 1950 or 1952. The definition of cool, I mean
01:01 it's got to be something that looks cool, that just catches your eye and you know right
01:05 away that that's something that's cool, it's going to be the car that we're going to want
01:08 for that award. We'll find out which car defines cool a little later. Let's head across the
01:15 fairgrounds to watch the Good Guys hand out some very coveted awards. Street Rod and Street
01:22 Machine of the Year. The judges have narrowed it down to ten stunning cars. When I got here
01:28 and started walking around and seeing all the really quality, nice cars, I'm going,
01:34 that one's going to beat me, that one's going to beat me too. This is a Super Bowl here,
01:41 you know, as far as street machines are concerned. Let's take a look at the five finalists for
01:48 Street Machine of the Year. A gorgeous '55 Chevy shoebox. When I looked under the hood
01:55 of this thing I had to do a double take because he's got Arius Chevrolet cylindrical cylinder
02:00 heads on this thing, hemispherical cylinder heads, it's basically a Chevy Hemi. A twin
02:05 turbocharged '67 Chevelle. A home built '55 Chevy convertible. A radical '71 Plymouth
02:13 Barracuda. A 572 cubic inch all aluminum Hemi, 870 horsepower on pump gas. And this beautiful
02:20 '57 Chevy that is an updated version of a hot rod built years ago by Sam and Chip Foose.
02:31 All five machines are top notch, but of course, somebody has to win. And our winner is Bob
02:38 Johnson. Bob Johnson, ladies and gentlemen. '71 Cuda, Gainesville, Georgia. In the face
02:45 of some very stiff competition, a stellar '71 Cuda took home the prize of Street Machine
02:51 of the Year. You won't find a better street machine than that one. It's orange, it goes
02:57 fast, it goes 180 miles an hour, it's got carbon fiber, it's got a fighter cockpit,
03:02 it's a gear shifter. Well, let's start off with a '71 Cuda. It was a 340 Cuda, it was
03:08 a real Cuda, it wasn't a Barracuda. It's got C5 Corvette front and rear end in it, about
03:13 1,100 horse power, it's got ceramic coated titanium rotor brakes on it, 6 piston calipers,
03:20 20 and 18 inch real knock off Colorado custom wheels. It's got Michelin tires that came
03:24 on the Carrera GT Porsche, and everything on the front end is carbon fiber. It's got
03:29 all aluminum dry sump, Indy Silverhead Hemi, with a one off Hogan fuel injection system
03:34 on it. This is a big kahuna event, you're going to win something, you're going to win
03:37 it here. Of course, this monster was built for better reasons than just winning a trophy.
03:42 Driving it, going fast, scaring yourself, scaring everybody else. Next up, the award
03:55 for street rod of the year. It's our oldest signature award that we present. It's for
04:01 cars 1948 and earlier. We've narrowed it down to five of the best in the country. The first
04:08 of the finalists is a black 34 Ford Dearborn Deuce convertible. Next up, this beautiful
04:14 two-tone '41 Willys Roadster. A sleek and swoopy '32 Speedstar Coupe, and a very cool
04:22 late '30s coupe that at first glance might be hard to identify. It's got so many influential
04:27 lines. It's got some European lines in it, it has some Ford Motor Company lines in it,
04:32 and of course, it has a lot of bow tie lines in it. We're talking about the '38 Chevy
04:37 Coupe, as that is indeed what it is. Last but not least, an awesome '32 Ford Highboy
04:43 Roadster. Ladies and gentlemen, your 2006 Good Guy Street Rod of the Year, presented
04:48 by Eagle One, John Vice, ladies and gentlemen. The black '38 Chevy, absolutely gorgeous car.
04:55 This chopped and wedged '38 Chevy Coupe has had a bunch of body mods, including a pancaked
05:08 roof and stretched doors. It's got a tube chassis with C5 suspension, a supercharged
05:15 LS1, and rear mounted six-speed, but that's just the beginning. Got a radio with an iPod
05:21 on it, I mean, it's all creature comfort stuff. In fact, when we were building the car, I
05:28 had my wife come and sit in the car with me, and she got in there, and she's sitting in
05:32 there, and she looked around, and pretty soon she looked up at Dale Bash, the builder, and
05:38 she said, "Where's the place for my knitting?" So, about six weeks later, we're back out,
05:45 and Dale says, "Come here, come here, come here." So, right in the back, peek back in
05:50 there, there's a little compartment back there for her knitting. I want a car that I can
05:56 smoke the tires to 80 miles an hour, put the cruise on, and go to Denver. Then get into
06:00 a road race with a Porsche. Coming up, more cool cars, more cool winners, and find out
06:13 who's going to drive home with that Boots 69 Camaro. All that, when Hot Rod Television
06:20 returns.
